Freewheel'n - January, 2001
Time
to face reality…the Thanksgiving dinner is done, holiday presents have been
opened and the New Year’s celebration is over. We now need to begin the task of
addressing issues for 2001. The ‘X
Games’ are coming to Philadelphia and perhaps we can tie into these. Quest Tours will be released next
month. RePete is looking into the
possibility of enhancing these…details to follow. A repeat of the Seagull is being considered alone with
the return to such tours at the Princeton Event, Covered Bridge and
others. What else? Visit my web site for a host of
info.
Let
us take another trip in the Time Machine…we will go back …way back to December
1986!!! What were we doing??? Well we step out and are greeted by the
Board consisting of Bob Basich, Tim Thompson, Fran Danelsbeck, Art Schalick, Dan
Flynn and Gordon Mann. We are
informed by this group about the terrific year. Particularly the convention held in
Lancaster. This was only the second
sponsored by the club! Then we are
told about the two big rides scheduled for 1987…the Get Ready on
June 13 and the Jersey Devil on September 26. We ask about the Road Runner and the
Bridgeton Zoo, only to be met with blank stares. Oh yes, we then realize that these have
yet to be approved. We are
told that all the board members except for Art and Dan will be replaced in
January. The new board will consist
of Gene Schoeberlain, Pete Nahaczewski, Judy Flynn and Dewey Parker as well as
Art and Dan.
We
are rushed off as the time is getting late. We need to be at the Buena Vista Country
Club for the Christmas Party!
Arriving we take in the open bar and then watch a slide show provide by
Joel Perlish. This features his
trip of the west coast. Afterward,
we are talking with Dave Kasper who is already planning the next
convention. He speaks excitedly
about a place called Crisfield, Maryland with side trips to Smith and Tangiers
Isles. In time we meet up with Pete Nahaczewski who talks about the first ride
he led for the club! This is the
gent that will become RePete? That
ride was attended by Bob B, Norm, Janice H and their son, and welcomed Elaine to
the club. No mention is made about
any flats. There is excitement and
fun in the air…yes the club is still young and fresh. The hour grows late and we must get back
into the Time Machine…we re-enter, and realize that many of these people we not
be with the club when we exit.
