Freewheel’n...March, 2000!

Spring beckons with snow still on the ground. Those mild days of early January are a distant memory. We now look forward for warmer weather so that we can return to our roads.

Some very exciting news! RePete’s web site has been selected to be featured as part of Fine Cycling, a weekly on-line newsletter with the latest web announcements relating to cycling. This will help provide great exposure as their newsletter is received by a large group of cycling enthusiasts. I thank Antonio Sanchez, who is the editor, for this recognition.

While on this topic, RePete has been very busy making many improvements to his web site. These include major changes to Quibbles, an open topic area where issues are varied and free flowing. Currently provided are photos of our recent Convention in Rehoboth Beach. You do not want to miss these as they capture many of the moments of this exciting weekend. Then you can preview tours that RePete will lead. Evening excursions during the week and many weekend day rides are scheduled. Once again, the Peach Blossom starts the weekend season. Also featured in Quibbles are riding techniques. The current release advises about non-standard intersections. There are many other sections, such as Quotes where your comments are located. Within Freewheel’n you can review the current and all previous issues of this release. In the near future, Quest Tours will provide a complete list of all of these rides. There are many more features worth exploring!

Will Oprah Winfrey have a program suggesting that cities outlaw cyclist?! The web site has these questions, “Should there be a law making it illegal for bike riders to ride on city streets? Do you think bike riders are hazardous to drivers and pedestrians on city streets? Have you or someone you know ever been involved in an accident because of a careless bike rider on a city street? The Oprah Winfrey Show wants to hear whether there should be laws regulating where a person can ride their bike in cities. Share your views here! Thanks, we look forward to hearing from you.” More to follow in the next release of Freewheel’n.

RePete is surprised to learn about “cyclist” that still ride helmetless and/or with a radio. Either are extremely risky! Head injuries that result from a fall can result in permanent brain damage. Distractions caused by a radio can lead to an accident. We share the road with motor vehicles. This requires constant attention. Please cycle responsibly and safely. Additional information on this topic can be found on my web site under the Quale heading.

Finally, let us have an exciting, fun, safe cycling year. RePete is looking forward to the Get Ready, Bridgeton Zoo, the Jersey Devil and a season full of tours. To do these we need volunteers...the more the merrier! Contact any officer of the SJW for details.

Safe Cycling and a Welcome to Spring,

Then there are the Quale sites where topics are varied, like the highly imaginative Tales of Pauline.

Also visit the Quote site that contain your comments. Here you will find submissions on Bicyclist Against Helmets and many other issues and links.
