April, 2000

At last, the snow is gone and the temperature is climbing! We can now begin to get back in the saddle again.

Some more exciting news! The web site of RePete's World has again earned additional recognition. Just last month, Fine Cycling included a link in their weekly newsletter. This time, C Quad had done the same. The C Quad web site is full of useful information and has an excellent design. RePete thanks Don Varley, Jr. for this new recognition.

Will Oprah Winfrey have a program suggesting that cities outlaw cyclist?! Last month there was mention that Oprah's web site questioned if cyclist should be outlawed in cities. Well, the planners of this show may have had a change of mind. The League of American Bicyclist released the following message, "The League of American Bicyclists has spoken with three producers, a media relations person and a public relations person at the Oprah Winfrey Show over the last week. They confirm they now have no interest in doing a program on banning biking in cities. Though they would not admit "Outlaw city bikers?" was "killed" in response to a blizzard of emails and phone calls from concerned cyclist, we are convinced this is what lead to the demise of this proposed program. Thank you for speaking out on behalf of cyclists' rights. We will inform you if we learn of any new developments." Although RePete is happy with this news, this does reveal the "thinking" of many in our society. Despite our sport being environmentally friendly, provides wonderful health benefits and requires no commitment of additional land resources, we cyclist are still looked upon as a nuisance. RePete congratulates the efforts of the SJW to present a positive image to the public. These works need to be published on our web site and other area that people will read. Other cycling clubs need to take similar steps. These combined efforts will cause the change of perception in those that now wish to remove us from the roads.

Now for some regretful news...RePete developed a persistent cough at the end of February. The doctors are now completing a series of test. Until the results of these test are completed, the Quest Tours are being suspended. Hopefully, these will resume shortly. Additional information may be available at RePete's World web site within Quibbles in early April.

Safe Cycling and have a Happy Easter,

RePete
