An open item from last
month is the resumption of Quest Tours.
These were suspended after RePete developed a persistent cough
and began a series of tests that included CAT scans and x-rays.
After much probing and blood testing, the result was pneumonia.
Thankfully, earlier fears of something much more severe were put
to rest. Recovery is now nearly complete and the Piney Hallow
marks the return of weekend tours. You can find information about
this as well as evening tours in the "Rides & Events
Schedule" of this newsletter. My thanks to those that
extended their concerns and best wishes.
RePete attended the club's
meeting held on April 5th and found the proceedings very
entertaining. Seems the long awaited
jersey that was first proposed early last year moved closer to
reality. A finalized display was not yet available for members to
view. Regardless, the officers agreed to move ahead on the order
and in turn will spend nearly 2/3 of our treasury balance.
Hopefully, advance purchases will help to offset some of this
amount.
The convention news is that the
site may be beautiful and chilly Allentown, Pennsylvania.
The club will also offer a weekend in Vermont. RePete is
wondering which to attend…will it be colder in Vermont for
the August outing, or for the Convention in October.
Then there was our guest speaker
who provided insight into his bicycle trips along the East Coast.
RePete is not certain if
the cycling community is ready to subscribe to his techniques.
One of these is riding with cut-offs (ouch!!) rather than in
cycling shorts. Then there was riding with a bent rear axle.
Another is using a Huret Cyclometer instead of a more modern
electronic piece. He also told the group about the time that he
spent in the house with a married woman while her husband was
away. I guess he is doing something right, we had members buying
a book he wrote!
What else…I may save the remainder for Quibbles on my web
site.
Safe Cycling and have a Good Memorial Day,
RePete
