Freewheel’n – July 2002

The Triple Loop Tour now has a distinction shared with only one other…the Pixton Poker Ride. What do these have in common? RePete crashed and was hospitalized on both!!!

Our warrior had just repaired a flat for a damsel and was traveling with a buddy. Then...wham...bang and the lights went out!!!!  Next thing RePete was on the pavement. The Sag Wagon happened along and provided assistance. During the drive back to the starting point at Batsto, RePete passed out and came to just before arriving at Atlantic County Trauma Center.  The remainder of the day was spent getting x-rays and a cast installed for a broken right wrist. Also broke the left pinky...no other injuries except for scrapes to the left leg and arm. The helmet prevented head injuries in this accident and the crash that occurred in the Pixton Tour.

After the appointment with the bone doctor, surgery was done on May 20. Another cast installed that went from above the elbow to just above the fingertips.  Much...much pain after the surgery.  Lived on Percocet! Latest x-rays show the bone is mending and a smaller cast has been installed...from just below the elbow to about the mid point of the fingers.

Additional complications developed shortly after the accident with severe lower back pains...doctor thinks maybe a recurrence of a kidney stone.

Faith was not done dealing cards, RePete’s cousin died of a stroke...she was an organ donor and his younger brother got her kidney!!!  The kidney failed to work after the transplant...but finally kicked-in. There were additional anxious moments after the incision opened that required further surgery. All is again well as the brother is now recovering.

Adding insult to injury, everything on RePete’s hard drive was lost after the computer got a virus!!!!

As for the bike…came through in good condition. Beacon Cycling and Fitness took care of her and made some improvements and is ready to continue Quest Tours.

Special thanks to Mitch for providing help after the accident and then for taking care of the bike. Also to our own Klaus, who provided day of the accident support and help Finally, to Linda for providing the daily care and support necessary, a very special thanks.

Perhaps there is some truth to the statement…God let’s no good deed go unpunished!

Safe Cycling,

RePete
