Freewheel'n - July, 2000

This is an exciting time of the year. The USPRO Championship was held in Philadelphia with Henk Vogels winning this 156 mile men's race in a record time of 5 hours, 52 minutes and 11 seconds! Petre Rosser, the 1992 Olympic gold medalist, took the 72 mile woman's race with a record time of 3hours and 2 seconds. More information is available at http://www.firstunioncycling.com/index2.html.

There was also our own Get Ready Tour. Sorry that RePete could not attend. I was celebrating my daughter's graduation from Stockton College.

In July there is the Tour de France, the super race of the cycling calendar. The Tour will begin July 1 in Futuroscope, the giant new park located in the heart of France. The Tour's site is multi-lingual, available in German and Spanish, as well as French and English (What? No Italian?). For a look at Futuroscope, go to
http://www.discoverfuturoscope.com/flashindex.html There is lavish historical information available, including an archive of riders dating back to 1903. There are details of this year's route, and updates will be posted daily during the Tour, from July 1 through July 23. Check it out at http://www.letour.fr/

Talking about upcoming events, RePete has the Tour to Smithville scheduled in July. The
Towne of Historic Smithville is a quaint little town near Atlantic City, where the sounds of yesteryear are very much alive. Centered around the Smithville Inn, the Towne entertains thousands of visitors each year. Tour the cobblestone paths and return to the 1700's when the people were friendlier and everything was homemade. Enter any of the forty fine shoppes or dine in any of the four fine restaurants and take home an experience to treasure and remember!!

Want to know some great ideas on how to clean your chain and cogs? Well, RePete just posted some of the best in
Quibbles located on his web site.

Safe cycling,
