Hello and welcome to our page!   We're just getting started, so please  bear with us while we attemtpt to create a page that will tickle the GSD lovers' fancy!  It may take a little while because we are expecting a baby in January, and are trying to prepare for the new arrival.

In the meantime, if you have pictures of your GSD and/or fun stories, or dog related quotes, anecdotes, etc. that you would like to share, then please email us at rescuelady@yahoo.com and we will gladly include it.  We also welcome informative information on the breed, or dogs in general.  I will be including information on the breeds characteristics, ( including but not limited to genetic maladies and health problems that are found in the breed)  I will also be providing information on German Sheperd Dog rescues throughout the U.S. and Canada, so if you have information on any, please send it to the above email address or click on the email icon below!

Thanks for stopping by and we look forward to hearing from you, and to developing a page that GSD lovers will enjoy!

While you are waiting for more information to be added, read the story of Richter (origin - German, meaning: Judge) At just 4 months of age, his family turned him out on the streets to fend for himself. He rapidly lost weight and after two weeks on the street, concerned neighbors called the 'dog catcher' He was caught and taken to his owners who said they didn't want him anymore. He was taken to the pound and kept there for a period of time. Debra Bond of White GS Rescue in Dallas, Texas saved him two days before he was scheduled for euthenasia, and sent him to Undine Price, the head of White GS Rescue in Dallas. This nameless pup spent a few days with her, then went to a foster home to be cared for until a permanent home could be found. I just happened to catch a post about a 4 mo old male White GS puppy in need of a home and contacted Undine for more information. I wasn't really expecting anything to come of it, and we were not really 'looking' for a dog at the time. Undine called me and we talked about the boy, I told her I would let her know in a few days if we were interested. As soon as I got off the phone, I told my husband about him, and he said that if we could get him here, (to MD from TX) that we would take him. I was thrilled. I have always loved GSD's and so has my husband. I called Undine back immediately and told her that we would like to adopt him as long as we could get him to MD. Over the next few days I was in contact with Undine daily, via email or phone. We tried to arrange ground transport for the boy, but it was such a long distance to travel, and things were not coming together easily. Patti Kambestad in WY even tried to help me set up the run through CUR, but it was just not working! I posted to several lists about our need for help, and our prayers were answered! Thanks to 'angels' who shall remain nameless for their own privacy, we obtained the money needed to ship this formerly nameless dog, (my family was now calling him Richter) home to MD! Undine took care of getting Richter his rabies shot and health cert, and getting him on the plane, on Saturday November 20th, and a friend in VA (Sandy Middlebrook) picked him up from Dulles for us, while we attended my husband's brothers wedding. At 11am Sunday November 21st, we met Richter for the first time. He was an absolute doll! Sweet, attention starved, underweight, and absolutely beautiful! It had been 2 weeks since we had consigned our hearts to this boy, and now here he was! Since bringing him home, he has been a wonderful dog. We are working on crate training now, and giving him calcium and vitamins along with his Nutro Natural Lamb and Rice diet, to help his body to recover from the devestation of two weeks without proper nourishment. The biggest problem we have is that he eats his stools. I think that is where most of his nourishment came from in the weeks that he was stray, and now it is just a habit. He certainly is not starving here! :-) So, we have added forbid to his food bowl, and we will see if that works. I cannot thank Undine enough for how wonderful she was to us! As many of you know, I do rescue myself, and have for nearly 2 years. I have worked with many rescues in many different situations, some experiences have been positive, some have not. But working with Undine, I couldn't have asked for anything more positive. She kept in touch with me constantly, and worked her best to accomodate what would work best for me and my family as far as transporting Richter. We did have one scare where we thought she might have to place him in a hurry and that we would not be able to get him, but Undine promised me she would make sure we got this boy, and she did! I always enjoyed talking to Undine on the phone, she was so pleasant and so upbeat, even though she was overrun with dogs and puppies. (we all know how hard it can be to keep a positive attitude when their are dogs/puppies coming out of our ears!) Thank you Undine and thank you Elisabeth and Monty who fostered Richter and kept him safe until a home could be found! I will keep everyone update as to how Richter is doing, and will be putting up a page for him on my website. Thank you to everyone who helped us bring Richter home, or who emailed and offered suggestions, or just kindness and words of encouragement and support!
