Warrior Couple (Full Story): Written by Exodus, Original Story by Exodus North east of Scion, in the kingdom of Aruban, was the ancient land known as Qu’nos, there had been a lot of legendary battles and events here, but at present, one man, a legend in his own time, known as the Great Elder, resided here. He taught many in the way of the warrior, who all rose to great things, and the elder himself had served as a valued member of a freedom fighting group several years ago, before he left to go back to teaching until his final days. A certain individual wandered into the Great Elder’s tutelage quite a while back, shortly after the attack at Scion Castle. Earl Winters slowly walked along the dusty road, feeling very much confused, he didn’t know where he was going, or what he would do, his best friend Alice had been taken away from him, he’d taken many lives as an act of vengeance, and his home was no more, what was he supposed to do, he thought. Earl stumbled into a village comprising of many wooden houses, and collapsed from exhaustion. “Whoa, whoa, whoa, are ya okay, sonny?” asked an old thin moustached man with a withered face and wearing a long brown coat, helping Earl up. Earl stayed with the old man until he was rested up and ready to leave. “Are ya sure you’re ready ta leave?” asked the man, “Ah think you’re still a lil’ banged up.” “I can’t stay. I might be putting your life in danger...” said Earl mysteriously. “Whah, is someone after ya?...” “Perhaps, but its me who’s dangerous, I lost a friend, and I’ve taken lives, I don’t know what I’m doing or what I’m capable of... I need some guidance in my life...” “Well this is the perfect place.” “Huh?...” “This is Qu’nos, home o’ the Great Elder, he trains people ta be fine warriors, in body an’ soul, he’s known fer his guidance, yuh should definitely meet him.” explained the man. Earl took a minute to think about it, with worry lines across his forehead, and with a sigh, he came to a conclusion. “... I will, thank you for your hospitality.” Earl soon found the Great Elder’s home, a lone estate in the middle of a large field. He opened the door to see: “Hiyaaaaa!” A girl leapt past and sliced through a straw dummy, it split in half and collapsed. She was wearing a white mask which covered all of her face (except the eyeholes), with black curved ancient markings painted around the cheeks and eyebrows, she had long red hair that was tied in two long pigtails, by yellow bows and a lot of twisting, they fell to the sides and down to her waist, she wore a red sleeveless coat with yellow strings to tie it together, and tight black trousers and plimsolls. “Very good, my girl...” said the elder. Earl walked past the girl slowly and cautiously, as he did, she gave him a strange stare, her face couldn’t be seen though, only her eyes. Earl stepped up to the tall old man, who had a long moustache that drooped down into his beard, he was wearing white robes and black sandals. “Are you the Great Elder?” asked Earl. “Yes I am, my son, why have you come here?...” asked the elder. “I’m not sure.” said Earl sadly with uncertainty. “Excuse me?” “I’m lost, I’m very confused, and people say that you can offer guidance.” “Yes I can, but only if you’re willing to train to the best of your ability.” said the elder firmly. “Of course.” “Tell me your tale.” “Oh, right, some soldiers attacked my village and killed many, I unknowingly led my friend to death, and then took many lives in retaliation.” he explained. “So, you are looking for peace of mind?” “Perhaps, but I’m also looking to avenge everyone I lost.” “I’ve heard this sort of story before...” pondered the elder, “I suggest you stay here with me, and become a warrior, not only will you have the abilities to survive in this harsh world, but I am sure in the process I can help you find peace, my son.” “Thank you Great Elder.” “You will call me Sensei...” “Of course.” “Who’s the new kid?” asked the girl, wandering over. “Yes, of course, what is your name?” “Its Earl Winters.” He reluctantly shook the girl’s hand. “Samia.” “I have a feeling you two will make a nice couple.” smiled the elder. “Sensei!” protested Samia. “I mean as warriors, comrades, a good team.” explained the elder while chuckling. “Oh, that’s alright then.” said Earl. “Come Earl, we shall find your weapon of choice, and master it.” Months later, and Earl had trained for an obscene amount of hours every day, and soon mastered throwing weapons of every kind, and had gained the equivalent skills of a ninja. In the end, daggers were the weapons that called to him, and he even changed his name, to Dagger. He was swift, precise, and dangerous, and soon he had homed his senses so that he could even hit objects in the worst of conditions (forced movement, unclear conditions, etc). His clothing now comprised of a loose magenta shirt, with matching trousers and headband with small boots, he wore dark blue bracers on his wrists and lower legs, with five silver spikes in a cross formation on each one, and a dark belt securing small blades. Meanwhile, Samia continued to train alongside him, learning as much as she could in order to be a master swordswoman. News grew of the soldiers expanding their reign over Scion, but the two weren’t permitted to investigate until their training was complete, the Great Elder had plans for them. “Dagger, do you think you have you found peace yet?” asked the elder. “I don’t know, the real problem is that I no longer feel guilt for the people I killed, at the time, I was so full of darkness and hatred, I fear what might happen to me if I ever fell into the dark side.” worried Dagger, occasionally clasping his head in his hands. “That is a dilemma that all warriors face at one time or another, the path they walk on.” explained the elder wisely. “I want to be good, I really do, but sometimes I feel so empty, and full of hate.” explained Dagger. “Dagger, I know you, you could never be truly evil. And your friend... Dagger, for a while, you have blamed yourself for the loss of your friend, how do you feel about it now?” “I have to stop blaming myself. What happened was a tragic mistake, and couldn’t be helped.” “I think you’re finally ready to-” Suddenly the windows shattered, and two black demons entered the building. “We have finally found you, the one who brought death to our queen!” screamed the female. “Demons...” muttered the elder. Dagger ran forward and clashed daggers against the tall male demon with a pair of curved horns, thin moustache and beard, that were actually part of his face rather than just facial hair, he wore a pale orange wide cone-shaped straw hat and a long purple cape. The female had two sharp whiskers on each side of her face, she looked slightly cat-like in appearance with her facial features, claws and tail, but she stood like a person and held a long sword. The Great Elder retrieved a sword on the wall and blocked the demon’s. “Who are you? I thought all of Zycote’s demons were destroyed!” he shouted. “We are from the Revenge Clan, an ancient race of demons that kill warriors should they ever destroy powerful figures, the reason you never saw us before is because our code prevents us from fighting and killing warriors, unless they have brought death to another, particularly significant figures.” said the cat-like demon, “I am Vendetta.” “And I am Scorn.” said the second demon as it held Dagger back. “And we shall bring death to you, old man.” shouted Vendetta, scraping her sword away and thrusting forward, the elder avoided the hit easily, and struck. “Sensei! Let me help!” shouted Samia. “No Samia, they said they only slay people who have killed before.” shouted the elder, concerned for her, “You need not be involved!” “But I have...” groaned Samia. “What?...” “I’m sorry I never told you...” she sighed. “Yes, we can sense you killed a soldier.” smiled Vendetta, “Did you ever think about his family and how much they’ve suffered?!” “Somehow they can sense that I’ve killed...” thought Samia, “And that means they’re seemingly entitled to kill us all.” The Great Elder swung his sword more fiercely, Vendetta tried to block it, but the elder was highly skilled, and cut off one of the demon’s hands, and removing her sword in the process. “Urrrgghh!!! You may kill us, but many more will follow until your blood is spilt!” screamed Vendetta, “Stryke!!!” Samia heard her call out, not to Scorn, but another. She noticed a third demon by the window, sat in a strange stance and looking a little lizard-like, with four long curved areas on his face, two on his cheeks, and two sticking up like flat horns, he was holding a bow and many arrows, which were all ready to fire. “No!” screamed Samia, who dived behind her sensei and used her sword to deflect the arrows, but one of them got through, and pierced the area under her neck. “Samia, no! Why protect me?! I’m old, I’ve lived my life!” screamed the elder. “Hah!” screamed Vendetta, magically returning the sword to her other hand and thrusting it into the Great Elder’s chest. “Arrrrghh!!!” he yelled. “NOOOOO!!!” screamed Samia, now on the floor, and bleeding a lot. Dagger gasped, “Sensei!” “Mission complete.” said Scorn. “I’ll kill you!” screamed Dagger. “You’ll have to catch me first!” laughed Scorn, diving out of the window, Dagger leapt after him and chased him. “Sensei... Please, don’t die...” cried Samia through heavy breathing. “I shall finish the job for sure.” said Vendetta, raising her sword above Samia, she screamed out and raised her leg fast, hitting Vendetta in the leg and breaking it, she then grabbed her sword and pierced through Vendetta’s body, she fell down and her body exploded into many dark waves and dissipated, leaving her clothing behind. “Oh no!” cried Stryke. “Now... for you!” screamed Samia, still bleeding, but bracing the pain to stand up, and then charging at Stryke, who retaliated by firing off another storm of arrows... Meanwhile, Dagger caught up to Scorn. “You’ll not get away, you demons killed my sensei and my friend, and for that, I’ll make sure all of you die!” With that, he swiftly picked up and threw three shurikens, which buried themselves in Scorn’s chest, Dagger then held his twin daggers, and started to slash away at Scorn, not immediately aiming for an area that would be fatal, but wanting to draw this out and make Scorn suffer. As he did, the demon started to laugh, “I’ve never seen so much hatred, even among my brothers and sisters, you are truly something else.” “Shut up and suffer!” screamed Dagger. “But its so beautiful, all this rage, all this hatred, you’re going to walk the path of darkness!” “No... I’ll never do that, be like you...” “I’d like to be there when you admit to yourself that you are full of evil.” “Die!!!” “In fact, I think I shall!” laughed Scorn, jamming his claws a little into the sides of Dagger’s head, as he pierced the demon’s heart. Scorn exploded, his purple robe and straw hat fell to the ground, and the black waves of the demon’s body swirled around Dagger and dissipated. “Samia... Sensei... I’ll kill all of the Revenge Clan and avenge you!” shouted Dagger. “Mwa ha, you will, will you?” said an eerie voice, through Dagger’s lips, it sounded like Dagger’s voice, but it was whispery and it echoed. “What?!” screamed Dagger, before his eyes briefly glowed red and the eerie voice of Scorn spoke through him again. “I’ll be watching all the way, I’ll be there when you turn evil because I’m a part of you now! Hah ha ha ha ha ha hah!” “No!” screamed Dagger, “Get out of my head!” “No can do, there aren’t many people who know how to exorcise demons, looks like you’re stuck with me, forever! Hah ha ha ha ha ha hah!!!” “SCORN!!!” screamed Dagger, clutching his head and falling to the floor... Later, he returned to the elder’s house, wearing Scorn’s robe and hat, ready to kill off the other demons, but it seemed that someone beat him to it, next to the elder was the clothing that Vendetta had been wearing, and by the window, was Samia, sat down exhausted and covering her wound, having pulled out the arrow by herself, the clothing that Stryke had been wearing was close by. “Samia...” panted Dagger. “Help me out here...” groaned Samia. Dagger retrieved some bandages and tied them around Samia’s wound, he turned to the elder, who had long died, but he noticed something, one arm was at his side, the other arm and hand were pointing to a sword display. Dagger approached it and peered at it strangely. “I think he wanted me to have this...” suggested Samia, reaching out and taking the long sword with a red hilt off the rack. Without the weight of the sword, it rose up a little, and the entire area of the wall revolved around, and on the other side, now facing the two, was a shelf with two ancient boxes with name tags, Dagger took the one that had his real name on it, Earl. Samia saw this and walked towards her box quickly, upon seeing her name tag, she ripped it up into little pieces. “Samia?...” questioned Dagger. “That name tag... It had my real name on it...” “What is your real name exactly?...” “I can’t say, I also have an identity that I’d like to forget.” Inside the boxes were notes, the one for Samia read: “If you are reading this, then I must not be around any more. You are one of the most gifted students I have come across, but you must continue to train, or your gift will be lost. You have made me proud, and I am sure you will continue to do so, follow the sword...” As for Dagger: “You came to me as a lost soul, and bear great skill and strength, you have mastered your weaponry, but not your peace of mind, stay strong, and focused, and I am certain that you will walk the path you were meant to.” “Sensei...” muttered Dagger, while Samia was confused. “Follow the sword?... That doesn’t sound like a wish, more like a... clue...” Below the shelf was another sword in its display, with the blade pointing upwards, Samia felt the wall above it, and found and loose block, inside was a map with a cross on a small island. “He wants us to go there... Dagger?” questioned Samia. “Oh, right, sure...” said Dagger sadly. “Dagger, there’s something different about you, is there anything I can do to help?” offered Samia. “No... There isn’t...” said Dagger, slowly and decisively. The two buried the Great Elder at the highest hill of the field, and paid their respects, before leaving Qu’nos for good. They arrived at the Resistance Base, days later, and were greeted by Edwina, who took them to a small balcony overlooking the forest and beach. “So the Great Elder sent you? I know of him, how is he?” “Dead.” said Dagger blatantly and harshly. “Dagger!” shouted Samia, a little shocked. “Oh... I’m so sorry.” apologised Edwina. “He said we should come here, probably to use our skills for something big.” muttered Dagger. “That’s correct, there’s is an evil empire that has taken control of the castle, they have been enforcing their rule on Scion. We need all of the help we can get to protect the people in the neighbouring kingdoms from them.” explained Edwina. “Then I and Dagger will be happy to join you in your struggle, isn’t that right Dagger?” smiled Samia. “The people we’ll be fighting... are the ones that attacked Ryll... I can’t wait to get even with them...” said Dagger, a little happier. “Dagger, that’s not like you...” said a concerned Samia. “On the contrary, Samia...” With that, Dagger rose off the ground, and floated away, down towards the beach. “Dagger...” said Samia nervously, while Edwina was impressed. “Wow... Is he a Gaian too?” “A what?...” questioned Samia. “Oh, never mind...” “Dagger... Something happened to you recently, besides Sensei’s death, but what?... Don’t you trust me enough to tell me?...” muttered Samia quietly. Dagger landed, and his eyes glowed red. “What are you doing?! How could you tap into my powers?!” screamed Scorn. He reverted back, and answered, “If you can affect my decisions through your influence, I think its pretty fair for me to tap into your powers.” “You’ll walk the dark path, and I will make sure of that.” grinned Scorn. “Maybe I will, maybe I won’t, all I know is, things are about to get interesting...” End Back to “The Huntress” Click to read the next story: "Resistance Forged” Back to “Past Heroes and New Beginnings” Back to the Library
