Fears (Full Story): Written by Exodus, Original Story by Exodus

Morn’s success from the West Island of Salcar had shown promise, not the green
gem that had burnt him, that had been stored away until Morn could figure it
out.
The real treasure, was the two scrolls that once belonged to two ancient
warriors, known as Darmok and Jalad.
These brothers were like two sides of a coin, different, but linked together in
an inescapable destiny.
Their powers were brilliant, but had to be used together, and because they
represented different sides, good and evil, their intentions were unclear, as
they both had to agree on a path before their immense strength could be used.
When they left this world, they left behind their scrolls, not for a set person
representing good or evil, but whoever got to it first, they left behind their
words in the scrolls, but also a fragment of their powers.
Morn was close to unravelling the true potential of the scrolls, but he needed
the Resistors to make it work to the empire’s advantage, how would he get them
to willingly come to him?...
Blackmail was always good...

At the village of Kelsia, a village on a small island but a part of the kingdom
of Haprin, a swarm of robotic troopers codenamed Tempest Troopers were attacking
in a different way.
The navy blue, yellow and silver coloured robots usually used their gyro cannons
to generate small hurricanes and aeroblasts, but today, they were distributing a
horrid black smoke to blanket the small settlement and drive out the villagers.
They’d hastily got in contact with the Resistance Base, who had previously
offered their services to the village, and a selection of fine young warriors
known as the Resistors arrived shortly after: Turok, Lucia, Gear and Ross.

“That smog is just awful.” commented Ross, “How long do you think the empire can
keep this up? They aren’t wrecking this place so destruction doesn’t seem to be
their motive, and I don’t know why any human warriors would want to be involved
in this scheme...”
“Let’s not worry about that unless it happens.”
“Damn straight.” agreed Ross, running into the smoke hastily before anyone could
stop him.
There was a punching sound, a crashing of metal, and then a whirling sweeping
windy sound, and then an explosion.
Finally, Ross came hurtling out of the smog, and landed hard on the floor,
coughing horribly and bearing a couple of bruises.
“Oh that’s right, don’t tell Ross that sight is minimal and the smoke isn’t
healthy.” said Ross sarcastically.
“Its your own fault for running into that smog without waiting for my advice. I
was about to give you a protective mask, but not now, I scanned the gas while
you were literally fighting blind, you breathed in a poisonous sort, and
although its not enough to kill you or hinder you permanently, I don’t think
you’ll be participating in this battle.”
“You enjoyed saying that, didn’t you?...” asked Ross darkly.
“Turok, Lucia, those upgrades working for you?”
“Absolutely. I can see the Tempest Troopers from here.” said Lucia, wearing a
green visor across her screen, as was Turok.
“Once you destroy the cause of the smog, I’ll be able to assist, if you need it
of course.”
“You might as well make yourself comfortable Gear, we’ll be fine.”

Turok and Lucia charged into the murky fog, and immediately laid into the enemy
robots, their vision wasn’t as good as the Resistor robots, but surely the
empire would have thought about that.
Turok rose his fist and connected with a trooper’s head, forcing it into a spin
in the air, Lucia confronted a trooper with two fan cannons, and the blades were
already spinning to generate two cyclone blasts.
Lucia swiftly swept across the trooper with her claws, and then caught both of
the guns, still generating the winds despite being severed from their
controller.
The Tempest Trooper stared at its sparkling arms, and then at Lucia before the
winds burst from the guns and tore apart the weak constructed trooper.
Turok tore apart several other troopers with single punches and small charged
shots.
“Hey Lucia, don’t you think this is a little too easy? Ross and Ruwin said these
new troopers were somewhat challenging!” called Turok.
“You’re right.” agreed Lucia, clawing furiously to take apart a ring of
troopers, “I thought the empire was hiring and building better warriors ever
since I saw how Cammy fought.”
“Cammy’s not here right now, how about you study me?” spoke an eerie male voice.
Turok and Lucia turned to see a shady form of a robot, the colours were a little
unclear but they appeared to be several different ones, red, yellow, magenta,
green, orange, black, and silver.
The robot’s head comprised of a red framed screen with evil yellow eyes, metal
ears shaped like a cat’s, bulky shoulder pads, and similar cannons on the
wrists, and hefty lower armour and boot parts.
It also had a circular hatch on its stomach, two long coils around his back but
clipped in place, and finally, two curved funnels on either side of his
shoulders that was spewing the disgusting gas.
“They also made a pure robot that had a mind, but not much of one.” added Lucia.
“Oh, don’t mistake me for that experimental misfit Blastnossle, I am far
superior to that giant oaf. You may call me Poison-Needle, second of Morn’s
pure robots, and the best by far.”
“We’ll see about that.” challenged Turok, drawing his gun and firing a fairly
charged shot at the new robot, who raised one of his cannons, and fired a round
blob of slime that collided with Turok’s shot, making them both dissipate into
nothing.
“He blocked it...” stated Turok in disbelief, “Well you can’t pull it off
forever.”
“I can ‘pull it off’ longer and faster than you can, and that’s what really
counts.”
With that, Poison-Needle raised both his cannons and started firing more blobs
rapidly.
“He might have to sacrifice speed for power, but I’m well rounded.” stated
Lucia, loading up her gun and firing small fireballs to counter the blobs, and
it worked, the flames consumed the blobs into harmless dust.
“Ha ha!” chuckled the robot, “This is fun, let’s take it to the next level!”
Surprisingly, Poison-Needle increased his already high firing number, and even
Lucia couldn’t keep up, and retreated from the challenge, while Turok, who had
been charging during Lucia’s go, unleashed his shot and took out two of the
blobs, but hadn’t noticed Lucia back down in time to do the same.
Several blobs hit Turok and pasted him to the side of a house, “All that, for
some harmless sticky goo?!” he exclaimed.
“Its not so dangerous, but this is...” grinned Poison-Needle, opening his hatch
and extending a cannon from it.
“Turok!” screamed Lucia, diving at Poison-Needle and extending her fighting
claws.
“Take a rest Blondie!”
Poison-Needle fired two shots, one was blocked by Lucia’s claws, the second got
past her defenses and hit her in the face, covering her screen and blocking her
vision, even with the attachments Gear had made couldn’t see past it, the ooze
was too thick to get around.
“And now to wrap this up before you think of a last minute solution...” grinned
Poison-Needle, activating the cannon in his chest, and blasting waves of
acid-like liquid at Lucia, who blindly flew away, and smacked into a tree, the
liquid was aimed to follow her, and dissolved the tree into mush while burning
into Lucia’s armour and weakening it, and then flushing her into Turok’s
position, and attacking him as well while dissolving the sticky slime to subdue
Lucia while keeping Turok trapped.
“And now the finale, and the proof that I am what the empire needs to fulfil
their wishes.” stated Poison-Needle, as his two long coils rose from behind his
back, as if they were snakes, and on the ends of them were injector needles.
Before the Resistor robots could escape, the wires flew forward fiercely, the
needles soon jamming themselves into Turok and Lucia and immediately pumping
several loads of a specific poison into their systems.
“Its over you two, good night...”

Outside, Gear had decided to take Turok’s word and leave it to him, that and to
make sure Ross was okay, when the smog cleared up, Ross had recovered.
“Smoke’s gone, but where are our friends?...”
Ross and Gear stormed into the village square, there was little damage to the
houses, except one:
“Oh my god...”
In a disgusting heap of sludge were Turok and Lucia, both were heavily damaged
and their body armour was almost turned to mush, and their screens, rather than
showing two closed red pupils, there were red flatlines across their screens, a
definite sign that they were on the verge of death.
“What happened here?...”
Also, jammed into the mess was a small glass case with a note rolled up inside:
“To the pesky Resistors. Your robot friends will die from Poison-Needle’s virus
unless you do what we want. Only we have the cure and there is no time to
devise your own. All 8 of you remaining Resistors are to come to my lab without
weapons, and participate in a challenge in order to save your friends. Refuse,
or try anything, and Turok and Lucia will die. From Professor Morn.” read Gear.
“Sheesh, that guy likes to talk.” said Ross, trying to lighten the mood but
failing, “We’ve got to surrender, don’t we?...”
“We have no choice... Turok and Lucia have selflessly done more than their
share of battles because of what they are, they don’t deserve to go out like
this.”
“Morn spoke of a cure, but to get it to them, surely this challenge can be
won...”
“Or maybe Morn’s just luring us in a weaker state to be killed by the empire
warriors, while Turok and Lucia die through the virus. Still... We’ve got to
try...”

Later on, after Turok and Lucia had been transported back to the Resistance
Base, Kirie, Ross, Edwina, Samia, Dagger, Naga, Gear and Ruwin headed towards
Morn’s lab without being shot on sight, soldiers escorted them, but didn’t stay
too close, in case they attacked, but at the same time, feeling that they would
comply with Morn’s conditions.
A familiar face was standing at the doorway to Morn’s, with short black hair,
green and silver armour, red trousers, orange shoulder pads and boots, and two
gun holsters attached to his belt, currently full with his two weapons.
“Eddy?...” questioned Kirie, “You’re still serving the empire?”
“Kirie...” stated Ed, “So its true, you’re a Resistor.”
“And you’re Iyaxxl’s human shield.” replied Kirie.
“I’m his guardian, I know that you’re not terrorists, but you are my enemies.
I’m not like you and the others, I’m loyal.”
“Maybe so, but your allies aren’t very trustworthy, do you know why we’re here?”
“To participate in some challenge.”
“Because a robot has poisoned Turok and Lucia, they’ll die unless Morn gives us
the cure.”
“Turok... I owe him one for saving my life...”
“Ed’, you’re different to the empire warriors, you’re like us and-”
“Kirie, like I said, I’m loyal. I’m not what you think. Follow me...”

On the way down the halls of the lab, the Resistors walked in single file, they
couldn’t do anything that might provoke Morn into destroying the cure, even when
Poison-Needle stood by to watch the result of his work.
“Samia.” whispered Gear to the Resistor behind him, “Distract that robot, I’ve
got a hunch about this.”
“Okay...” she replied, “Look, that creep must be Poison-Needle.”
“Why thank you.” replied Poison-Needle, taking a bow towards Samia.
Gear seized his chance, and crouched down, took something out of his pocket, and
threw it at Poison-Needle, it hit him in the back, and forced him to the floor,
before he turned and glared sharply at Gear.
“You wanna try that again to my face?!”
“Wish I could.” replied Gear, before Poison-Needle slammed one of his cannons
into Gear’s head, and dragged him off.

In Morn’s larger office, a strange machine was set up, a big red cylinder in the
centre, with many wires connected to it that led to several dome-shaped helmets,
of which were placed over silver metal seats, eight of them, and arranged in a
circle around the machine.
Morn was there, grinning with delight, “Welcome Resistors, I suppose you’ll want
a brief explanation seeing as you don’t have too much time left...”
Morn watched the expressions of some change but not erupt into an outbreak of
harsh words, and he revelled in being able to do as he wanted with those that
had tormented and humiliated him.
“Sit down wherever you feel like in the allocated seats, and prepare to play a
little mind game, if you all win, I’ll give you the cure, and you can leave.”
“And if we don’t?”
“My, you don’t have a lot of confidence in your friends do you Kirie?”
“No, its just I don’t have any trust in you.”
“Heh. The game begins now.”
The red helms lowered onto the Resistors’ heads, and immediately made them fall
into a trance...
“Morn. I was assigned to aid you in this task, but I don’t understand what your
motive is.” inquired Ed.
“Its quite simple, this machine makes the Resistors experience some of their
biggest fears, but that’s not its only purpose, while they fight their fears, my
machine will be draining out their secrets, we’ll know enough about them to beat
them, and take out their secret base. Finally, once this machine gets their
secrets, it’ll drain their minds, killing the Resistors and letting those
troublesome robots succumb to the virus!”
With that, Morn pulled down a small switch and explained, “This switch will
manipulate the Resistors minds so that they will be unable to overcome their
fears...”

It appeared to work, each Resistor battled against their inner demons and fears
separately:

Kirie found herself weak, and crawling across the floor slowly, the experiment
that opened many wounds and left horrid scars starting up again and adding to
her grief.
There were many unclear figures around her, she couldn’t recognise them, but she
could see how they reacted, disgust, fear, and then escape from her by running
away.
Kirie felt too weak to get up, her whole body burning and tearing and making new
scars to cover it all.
“No... Don’t leave me... I don’t deserve this... I’m not a monster... I’m
not... I don’t wanna be alone...”

Ross found himself in a surreal world, ruins of his home Alcath was pieced
together roughly, and roughly was the correct term.
Ross slipped and took a fall, but gripped onto the edge of the structure, he
outstretched his left arm and prepared to stretch out his prosthetic arm, except
he didn’t have it, it was his real one, before he lost it.
“Wha?...” Ross exclaimed, before he realised that he didn’t have his metal
implants to his bones either, and there were several figures lying around the
town, dead figures, dead figures that looked like some of the Resistors, and
several of his fellow townspeople.
“No...”
Brutor was in the centre, restraining Edwina and drawing his knife, before
sliding it across her neck.
“NO!... I promised... I promised that I’d protect her... I’ve failed...”
“Aye ye have...” smirked Brutor, walking towards Ross, who was helpless and
couldn’t pull himself up, “Ye failed as a knight, an’ ye’ll never amount tae
anythin’ else, Ah’ll make sure o’ that.”
With that, he swiped his blade, and Ross relived a great pain, as his left arm
was torn off and flung over the edge, and down into the dark chasm, but Brutor
wasn’t done there, and tore off the other arm, Ross’ support was gone, and he
plummeted.

Edwina found herself in Morn’s prison, feeling uneasy and in pain as she had
once suffered.
“Take a look at this Princess.” he spoke, and a screen appeared, showing empire
soldiers casting plasma spells to destroy her friends and many innocent
villagers.
“Because of what you are, this brilliant opportunity couldn’t have been done
without you, your powers are responsible for the destruction of the kingdom.
You Edwina, are the weakest person I’ve ever known, but your magic is absolutely
brilliant. You’ll never have a normal life, no one will save you, and you’ll
remain here forever, providing our soldiers with great power until you pass
away!”
“No...” cried Edwina, “No...”

Samia was currently in a battle, with her closest companions, Dagger, and the
Great Elder, but even worse, her mask had been cut off and her true face was
visible, a personal fear of hers but for her own valid reasons.
“... I don’t want to hurt you, why are you doing this?!”
“Your beliefs have been shattered, there is no place for good in this world,
only the strong survive. Throw away your morals and show me what you’ve
learned.”
“Yes.” said Dagger darkly, “I’m sick of your whining to do good after all you’ve
done to hide your true face, but it doesn’t matter, I only ever admired your
strength. Now fight me!”
“No... I can’t... This can’t be what I’ve trained for!...”

Naga was in a burning village, her village, full of bodies torn apart and
littered all over.
“God, no... I had to leave because I failed to protect it, but I never wanted
this to happen...”
A bellowing roar echoed around her, and Naga’s biggest demon walked slowly from
behind a house.
“The Beast...”

Dagger was in total darkness, and a figure floated above him by choice, taunting
him, the face of the demon that had infiltrated Dagger’s mind and remained there
for months.
“Scorn...”
“I told you you’d walk the dark path, you killed many soldiers in your so-called
quest for good, but you enjoyed the killing, you did it for the kill, not the
cause, and now you’ve fallen into darkness, and you’ll never escape, you’ll keep
killing until you kill the ones you claim to love.”
The image of Samia’s dead body flashed over Dagger and disappeared.
“No... Not her... Anyone but her...”

Ruwin charged into the secret hideout named Spybase, only, the secret entrance
was blown wide open, and inside, all of his allies were dead or dying, including
his brother.
“Nick... Oh god, what happened?...”
“Don’t touch me!” he screamed in his dying words, bleeding from a severe knife
wound, “You did this!... Your amazing skills made you arrogant, working for a
good cause was no good cos you weren’t paid like your mercenary days, you joined
the empire and turned on those that truly cared for you. You think you’re cool
now?... You’re pathetic...”
“No... This can’t be happening!... I don’t fight solely for money... I’m not
evil!...”

And finally, Gear appeared in a dark stormy town, and saw his friends charging
headlong into danger.
“What’s going on?...” asked Gear, before he saw Morph, his self proclaimed
‘son’, as tall as a giant destroying the town.
“You know what’s happening Gear, you told us to attack him!” shouted Ruwin,
running to catch up with the others, who hopelessly attacked Morph until he
stepped on them with one foot, killing them all.
“Some leader you are Daddy, you led your team to their doom!” laughed Morph.
“No... My friends, they’re all gone... What sort of leader am I?!...”

“Ha ha ha.” chuckled Morn, “Its working perfectly, I must inform Iyaxxl that the
Resistors will soon be destroyed, keep an eye on things Ed, don’t let anyone
near the machine until it kills those Resistors.”
“Yes Sir.” replied Ed.
Morn left and Ed had some troubling thoughts, he knew that some of the warriors
in the empire didn’t care for human lives, and the Resistors stood for a good
cause, but where did that put him? He’d willingly joined the empire when Vialon
Town was attacked, but then he’d found something, a place in the world, guarding
the fortress of the people that would rule the kingdom, and make it better.
Vialon had fallen because the kingdoms were separated, and weren’t united
properly with the other kingdoms, if they had then surely people from other
kingdoms would have helped Vialon when the empire first started attacking.
Despite the empire being the cause of Vialon’s destruction, Ed believed in the
empire’s cause, uniting the kingdoms under one rule would ultimately be for the
best he thought, but he didn’t quite believe in many of the people that were
part of the empire.
Turok was a guy to believe in, even though they were on different sides now,
he’d once saved Ed’s life, despite him insulting him for finding love within the
empire, if Ed stood by and let the Resistors die, then Turok would die too, and
Ed’s debt would go unpaid.
He’d probably get into trouble for this, but he’d be able to get on with his
life knowing he no longer owed anyone anything, he’d be able to become a better
warrior, destroy those that would endanger his goal (Resistors and empire
warriors alike), and represent the empire in uniting the kingdoms under one
rule.
Ed raised one of his guns, and aimed straight and true at the switch that was
preventing the Resistors from overcoming their fears, the bullet hit, forced the
switch to rise, and bounced away, into a pile of machine parts.
Morn returned immediately having heard the explosion that followed the shot,
“Ed, what’s happening?! You didn’t touch anything did you?!”
“I was standing here, I couldn’t have, the machine’s doing this on its own.”

The Resistors suddenly changed their state of mind, their absolute despair
seemed to vanish, and their true strong selves shined through.

“My friends don’t care about my scars.” said Kirie, “They care for me because of
who I am, I’ll fight on despite these scars...”

“This isn’t real!” shouted Ross, his real arm and metal one reappearing, along
with his inner implants, “I got through my problem with feeling different and
became strong! I’ll never give up on my dreams!”
With that, he fired off his arm like a grappling hook and caught the structure,
he rose up, and delivered a punch to Brutor, who disappeared immediately.
“I won’t let Edwina die! I care too much about her to fail...”

“This didn’t happen, my power can’t be harnessed by people like Morn, it can
only be passed on to my future love and children. I may seem weak to some, but
I’ll fight to defeat the empire and restore Scion to its former glory!...”
shouted Edwina.

“The Great Elder is dead, but he died a good man, and Dagger... I know he’s got
a dark power within him, but I’ll do what I must to prevent him from walking the
dark path. I will...” stated Samia.

“I do fear the Beast for what its done and what it still can do, but I’ll train
hard so that I can slay it, before it can destroy my homeland!...” shouted Naga,
having faced up to the Beast but seeing it disappear from the first knife
attack.

“Scorn, I have a warrior’s spirit, I’ll kill if its what has to be done, but
I’ll walk the correct path that the Great Elder wanted me to, and Samia will
never be killed, not by my hand, or by others, I’ll make sure of it!...”
With that, Scorn disappeared, but would remain trapped in the depths of Dagger’s
mind for a while yet.

“I’ve put my mercenary days behind me, after I saw how the money was worth more
than the cause to one of my friends. I decided then that the way of the
mercenary might not be right for me. I’m a freedom fighter now, and I’ll make
due with what I get until the kingdom finds peace...” stated Ruwin firmly.

And finally, Gear shouted out, “I would never send my friends into a battle if
the odds were so far against them, this is just an empire trick! I’ll win this
war without sacrificing my friends!...”

The enemies, situations and places vanished totally, and all of the Resistors
awakened, and made a run for it.
Ed had left to secure the exits he’d told Morn, who was left to deal with the
Resistors, but he decided to stand where he was, the Fears project was over, and
the Resistors were still dangerous to him without their weapons, Morn could only
share one good thing, “You’ll never escape! Blastnossle, Poison-Needle and Eddy
will not allow you to leave, and you’ll never save your friends, Because There
Is No Cure!”
Gear looked back at Morn, turned away, and smiled, “We get out of here, I won’t
need it.”
The robots were standing in the hall, blocking the way forward.
“Gotcha kiddies, you’ve seen what I did to your friends, wait ‘til you see what
my poison does to humans!”
“And I ‘ave this new laser gun to destroy you.” added Blastnossle, firing it
immediately.
The Resistors were quite unprepared and helpless without their weapons, except
Ruwin, who leapt forward and drew out a mirror, which reflected the laser at an
angle.
“I’ve always wanted to do this.” he joked.
“You Would always have a mirror around.” complained Naga.
The laser hit Poison-Needle, charging him with immense energy, and then
exploding him, his body parts clattering everywhere, and his acidic and
poisonous content spilling onto the floor and starting to move outwards.
“Thanks for looking after this Poison’.” smiled Gear, picking his device off
Poison-Needle’s shattered back.
“The P.A.D.D?!” exclaimed Ross, “That means-”
“I suspected Morn would double cross us, so I connected the P.A.D.D to
Poison-Needle’s back and cloaked it. While we were sleeping, the P.A.D.D was
gaining information on the virus, and now I can create an antidote when we get
back.”
Ruwin leapt onto Blastnossle’s trunk, then up again to kick the back of his
head, forcing him to fall face first onto the dangerous mess.
“Ow, its hurts...” moaned Blastnossle, as the Resistors used him as a stepping
stone to get across the liquid.

Eddy was waiting at the exit, and stood aside, “Go, Turok needs you.”
“You helped us escape, didn’t you?” inquired Kirie happily.
“Only because Morn was using dirty tactics, and because I owe Turok, but my debt
is paid now. I’m a loyal soldier with a cause of my own, I can’t be one of you,
our friendship ends when you leave through these doors.”
“I still think you’re better than this.” said Kirie.
“Like I said, I’m not what you think.”
Kirie nodded, and turned away to escape with the others...

Turok and Lucia made a full recovery a little later, with a full explanation of
the recent events.
“Thank you Gear, I owe you one, again.” said Turok.
“I wish I could take full credit, but we wouldn’t have made it back if not for
Ed.”
“Ed played a hand in this?”
“He dangerously double crossed the empire to let us get the cure to you. Said
his debt was paid now.”
“Ed...” spoke Turok, “Thank you...”

But at the empire, Morn had a fit and wrecked the Fears machine in anger, “We
could have destroyed them, but this stupid piece of junk malfunctioned! If
Iyaxxl had just provided more funds, surely this would not have happened!”
Morn then calmly walked over to a desk with several computer parts, “But its not
a total failure, the secrets of the Resistors’ base remains with them, but their
physical and mental information I gained is enough to put my newest plan into
action!... Those Resistors will soon meet their match!...”

End?...
