Crafting from the ground up
Many people starting out ask about crafting. As such, we (the webmasters) decided to make a crafting page. Below is a basic over view of each craft guild, locations, and who has the highest skill on the LS. Member permitting, we might even provide links to email them for stuff. But that's up to them. You can always send a /tell and pester them that way. Just make sure you -don't- get yourself /blist'ed.

A few words on crafting itself: Crafting is, and probably always will be, one of the most reliable ways to make gil. When you have a craft skill high enough, of course. This raises the debate as to how to best level a craft skill. There are rumors abound about direction, day, moon phases, and such. And truly, the dev. team, when asked, doesn't answer anything conclusive about what may or may not factor into skill ups. Here is a useful wiki entry on skill ups. Now mind you, this is a wiki entry and thus not gospel. Take what you will to heart but remember, this entry is not fact. "Really, I don't know if the directions really help but hey, What does it hurt to try?" -Drya

Alchemy
Alchemy is a sort of cure all guild of Vana'diel. They craft potions, special weapons, and can do minor repairs. Their ability to craft these items make them a best friend to non-magical characters. Items such as potions, ethers, and others granting statuses like sneak and invisible can be invaluable to a WAR lost in Yhoator Jungle. They are also one of the more obscure guilds in Vana'diel, making some of their crafted items in high demand. Bastok's Alchemy Guild

Bonecraft
There are many guilds that craft weapons and armor, the bonecraft guild is one of these. Using horns, bone chips, and other such items, a crafter can create many items for any job. A skilled crafter in this field seems to be uncommon and thus, also in high demand. Windy's Bonecraft Guild

Cooking
Cooking appears to be a much loved craft and is something everyone can use. Food and drinks are often used by many players to boost any number of stats, or replenish hp/mp. Because the food effect eventually wears off, there is always a demand for certain items. Mithkabobs are most commonly used amongst the melee types (though I hear Dhalmel steaks are better), while mages prefer pies and drinks (mmm... pie). Windy's Cooking Guild

Clothcraft
Clothcraft is another guild that specializes in armor. Robes, tunics, hose, cuffs, and many belts tend to come out of the clothcraft guild. Many of these items are more for the purpose of giving stat bonuses instead of solid defense. Thus the clothcraft guild tends to be geared towards mages instead of melees. Located in Windurst, it's items are not in as high demand there, however, they can fetch a decent penny in one of the other 3 kingdoms. Windy's Clothcraft Guild
Locations: Windurst Woods (G-12)/Selbina (H-9)

Goldsmithing
Goldsmithing is unique in that it tends to focus on the accessory items. Earrings, rings, and hairpins are quite commonly choice items to gain skill on. Goldsmithers can also make a few pieces of body, arm, and leg armor. The guild can be fairly expensive to gain ranks in (a break could cost you several thousand gil) or be very lucrative (should that item not break). It is commonly suggested that you craft a different skill to a profitable point before beginning goldsmithing so you don't break your wallet trying to gain skill. Bastok's Goldsmithing Guild
Locations: Bastok Markets (H-8)/Mhaura (G-8)

  • Seraphyn, 39

Leathercraft
Another guild devoted to the armoring the inhabitants of Vana'diel, leathercrafting focuses on making mantles, belts, and items for the legs and feet primarily. The base items for leather working can be found on roughly one mob type in an area, mainly of the sheep, tiger, and dhalmel variety. These skins are made into leathers and crafted further with the use of other items. Sandy's Leathercraft Guild

Smithing
Here is the basis for most weaponry in Vana'diel. Smithing allows players to craft weapons, a few armor items, and a few accessories. Many of the ores needed can be found off worm type mobs in any zones. However, some ores are more difficult to find than others. Ores can also be mined at one of the mining points in Zerhun Mines and Palborough Mines. There are other mining points through out Vana'diel. These are just the better known ones. Woodworking
The second guild that crafts mainly weapons for players, woodworking is also unique in that it crafts most of the funishings in the game as well. Many mage weapons (staves, rods, wands, and poles) are crafted via woodworking but the true demand is for the higher skill items- tables, beds, dressers, and bookcases. The base item can be found via logging points in a variety of zones (Ghelsba Outpost, East Ronfaure, Jugnar Forest to name a few). Each zone has it's own set of logs available there so make sure you are in the correct zone for what you want to log before you start. Sandy's Woodworking Guild
