Soccer is the world's most popular team sport.  It is played in countries like England, Switzerland, Brazil, France, Australia, China, Japan, and even Canada.

Soccer has been played since the 1800s but has been popular only since the early 1900s. Soccer is called many things.  In England they call soccer football.  In Switzerland they call it fooseball.

Soccer is played with a black and white checkered ball.  The ball comes in different sizes because younger players need a smaller ball.  The official sized ball is a size "4" which is about 8 1/2 inches in diameter.

Rules are quite easy to follow but there are many rules.  One important rule is that you cannot use your hands!  Except for the goalie, however, who can use their hands.

Soccer clothing is quite casual.  Most players wear a pair of shorts and a jersey.  You can tell the difference between team players by the the colour of their jersey.

The Soccer World Cup happens every four years.  Teams from all over the world compete to find out who is the best in the world.
