10.] Van Halen - Mean Street 1981 from "Fair Warning" The definitive track from the Roth VH era. Mean Streets contains blazing guitar, super strong rhythms, Roths trademark vocal delivery all wrapped in a package that will blow you away - stunning. |
09.] Whitesnake - Still of the Night 1987 from "Whitesnake" Ditching the blues-rock of early Whitesnake, David Coverdale saw fit to chase the American market with a souped up pretty boy metal band. Luckily what could have been disaster proved to be stunning success and credit must also be given to guitarist John Sykes whose guitar is the backbone of this classic. If this track fails to blow you away you have no ears. |
08.] Dio - Don't Talk to Strangers 1983 from "Holy Diver" Ronnie James Dios third appearance in my top 10 proving that he is the all time #1 metal vocalist. Dont Talk To Strangers proved that Dio the band could be just as brilliant as Rainbow or Black Sabbath and this track is an all time classic richly deserved of its status as such. |
07.] Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell 1980 from "Heaven and Hell" Another metal track that is an epic. Stunningly simple yet effective Iommi proves along with Blackmore he is the king of the riff. Dio delivers a trademark rich and full vocal track that adds perfectly to the atmospherics. Now that autumn is almost upon on this track is prime and ripe for welcoming in a wet windy night. |
06.] Ozzy Osbourne - S.A.T.O. 1981 from "Diary of a Madman" A stunning track of a stunning album. One of Randy Rhoads finest riffs couple with Ozzys best vocal delivery make for a terrifying journey. |
05.] Lionsheart - Portrait 1992 from "Lionsheart" Who I hear you ask? Lionsheart were a band out of England fronted by Steve Grimmett that really should be in the big league. Sadly long defunct they left behind a legacy of superb work of which Portrait is their finest. A track that fuses neo classical pomp with traditional metal properties perfectly, stunning riffs, vocals and melodies make this one song to track down. |
04.] Symphony X - Edge of Forever 1995 from "The Damnation Game" An epic in every sense. The track has everything including the kitchen sink, many artists would get called pretentious for writing a track of this style but Symphony X have the conviction to pull it off perfectly. |
03.] Yngwie Malmsteen - How Many Miles to Babylon 1992 from "Fire and Ice" Yngwies finest work in my mind. Everything from the classical intro to the simple but powerful riff to Goran Edmans soul drenched vocals, this track is definitive Malmsteen. |
02.] James Byrd - Metatron 444 1998 from "Crimes of Virtuosity" A modern day Stargazer. Stunning musicianship, intelligent lyrics and the finest guitar work since Stargazer. James Byrd may not be the biggest name in the metal world but this track is surely one of the biggest tracks in the metal world. |
01.] Rainbow - Stargazer 1976 from "Rising" The definitive metal song. Everything about this song is perfect from the thunderous drum intro, the bone crunchingly heavy riff and Ronnie Dios perfect vocal delivery. Top this off with a stunning Blackmore solo and you have the perfect track. |
