Training History

Rick started studying Tracy kenpo in 1971 at the age of fifteen. After studying for nine months, Rick's first instructor Jim Thompson left the organization. Rick studied Tae Kwon Do from Pu Gil for two years until another Tracy Kenpo instructor moved into the area. Rick's second Tracy's Karate instructor was Robert Shultz. Rick achieved a 1st degree brown belt under Robert Shultz in 1978. Rick received his first degree black belt in Tracy kenpo under William Boyd in 1980. During this same period Rick was studying Soo Hwa Sool from Rodey T. Hard and achieved the rank of 1st degree brown belt and learned all of the rquirements for shodan. Rick later received the rank of shodan from Dennis Carroll. During the period between 1980 and 1991, Rick formed and ran the McDonnell Douglas Karate Club. During this period, Rick studied a variety of martial arts including judo, shotokan, and hapkido. In 1990, Rick studied Tracy kenpo under master instructor Tim Golby and achieved the rank of nidan - 2nd degree black belt in 1993. Rick continued his studies in Tracy kenpo under Mr. Golby achieving the rank of sandan - 3rd degree black belt in 1997. In 1995 Rick started studying kenpo jujitsu from master instructor Martin Foersterling. Mr. Forsterling taught Rick steadily until the year 2000 when the instruction was handed over to sensei Bill Troy. In October of 2000, Rick started studying small circle jujitsu. In January of 2001, Rick started studying ryukyu kempo from master instructor Will Higginbotham who is one of Grandmaster George Dillman's most senior students. In July of 2001, Rick received is yondan 4rth degree black belt in Tracy kenpo from Tim Golby. Today Rick continues his studies in Tracy kenpo, kempo jujitsu, small circle jujitsu, and ryukyu kempo.

In conjunction with the other martial arts training, Rick is also studying the Japanese language, accupressure, qi gong, tai chi chuan, and holistic healing.

Rick has also been taught through seminars and personal instructions from some of the greatest martial artist of today. He has had ryukyu kempo instruction from George Dillman and Will Higginbotham. He has had personal instruction with masters Al Tracy and Tim Golby. He attended a kickboxing seminar with Joe Lewis and Bill Wallace. Rick has been taught small circle jujitsu by Wally Jay, Leon Jay, Ron Ogi, and Ed Melough. He has had Tai Chi Chuan and Qi Qong instruction from Master Larry Lee and Vince Carella. Rick has also studied Soo Hwa Sool Kung Fu and Hapkido under Master Rodney T. Hard.
