M.W.Bro.Chief Justice Devinder Gupta was born on April 4, 1943 at Shimla. He Studied in Sanatan Dharam High School Shimla and graduated from R.P.C.S.D.B.College Shimla in 1964. He obtained the Law Degree in first division from Punjab University Law College Chandigarh in 1966. He was enrolled as an Advocate on March 23, 1967 with the Punjab & Haryana Bar Council. He started his practice in Shimla under the guidance of his father L.Ram Krishan Gupta, Senior Advocate and later shifted to Himachal Pradesh High Court, Shimla. He was appointed as a permanent Judge of Himchal Pradesh High Court on June 25, 1990. He was later transferred as a Judge of the Delhi High Court. He was the Acting Chief Justice, Delhi High Court, on four different occasions. He was sworn-in as Chief Justice, High Court of Judicature of Andhra Pradesh on 6th March, 2003. During his tenure as the Chief Justice, in addition to his outstanding judgements, M.W.Bro.Devinder Gupta ensured a quantum leap in the computerisation programme of the Judiciary. He retired on attaining the age of Superannuation on 04-04-2005.

 

M.W.Bro.Chief Justice Devinder Gupta saw the light of Freemasonry on 14th November, 1973 when he was initiated in Lodge Hydaspes No. 4842 E.C., Shimla. He occupied the Eastern Chair in the said Lodge during the year 1980-81 and again in 1989-90 and served as Secretary of the Lodge. He is a Founder Member of Lodge Himparbat No.23, Shimla, Lodge Harballabh No.240, Jalandhar, Lodge Raghunathjee No.255, Jammu, Lodge Justice Prakash Narain No.281, New Delhi and Lodge Kinner Kailash No.320, Shimla.

 

He has held many prestigious Ranks and positions in the Regional Grand Lodge of Northern India as well as in the Grand Lodge of India. In the year 1998, he was awarded the Rank of P.Dy.R.G.M. by the Regional Grand Lodge of Northern India. He is presently holding the active rank of Deputy Grand Master in Grand Lodge of India and has been elected as the next Grand Master to lead the Grand Lodge of India. M.W.Bro.Gupta is the Grand Representative of the Grand Lodge of Georgia near to the Grand Lodge of India.

 

M.W.Bro.Devinder Gupta has been active in the Royal Arch, Mark and Royal Ark Mariners degrees also. He was exalted in Chapter Prospect No.54, Shimla , advanced in the Pinnacle Lodge of Mark Master Masons No.10, and elevated in the Sunshine Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No.10, Shimla. He has occupied the Eastern Chair in all these degrees.

 

He was awarded the rank of Past Regional Second Grand Principal in 1997 and Past Deputy Regional Grand Mark Master in 1999 by the Regional Grand Lodge of Northern India. He became R.A.M.R.G.O. in 1991. In the Supreme Grand Chapter of India, he holds the rank of Second Grand Principal and in the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of India, he was awarded the rank of Past Senior Grand Warden in the year 2005. He became a Junior Royal Ark Mariner Grand Officer in the year 2001 and Senior Royal Ark Mariner Grand Officer in the year 2005.

 

M.W.Bro.Gupta has served with distinction all the offices held by him particularly as the Registrar of the Grand Lodge of India.

 

M.W.Bro.Devinder Gupta is a true Freemason both in letter and spirit. A very amiable, religious and charming personality, he practices the true tenets of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth wherever he goes. He belongs to a family of Freemasons. His father was first in the family to see the light of Freemasonry. His brother and both his sons are also active freemasons.

 

In recognition of his yeoman and meritorious services rendered to the cause of Freemasonry in general and to the Grand Lodge of India in particular, M.W. the then Grand Master, M.W.Bro.Arun Chintopanth, OSM was been pleased to award him the distinguished medal of Order of Service to Masonry on the 14th day of April, 2006 corresponding to twentyfourth day of Chaitra, 1928 Saka Era.
