Since the differential pair is a natural choice for implementing the input stage of a trans-conductor, why not make use of the positive terminal too to provide self-reinforcement?
If the amount of self-reinforcement is not enough, then the neighborhood radius can be increased, grounding the negative terminals of the additional transconductors! (eqn. 4)
