Ginningagap has been a mystery since the
first days of our exodus into Subterrainia. It is an entirely dark area
of sea that resides below what is the Overworld Pacific Ocean.
There is a ring of pyrotech houses forming
a ring around the Gap. This is what the Overworlders think is the Ring
of Fire--the volcanic ring that they beleive is caused by platal shifting.
We keep them ignorant and happy, we continue in peace.
There have been many expeditions into
the chasm here, but none have returned. Being perpetually dark could have
caused navigational problems for early ships, but more superstitious folk
beleive that there is some monstrosity residing there, eating them all--this
of course, is a very old-world view. It is, though, how we developed out
holiday, Ginninghod.
There was a tale begun by the earliest
of us that a great and wise leader sacrificed himself to contain the void
in the area it now inhabits (he is also supposedly responsible for developing
the pyrotech ideas). His name was Ghod, but we shortened it to Hod, and
that is also how we developed the role of Hod in our geovernmental system.
Every February ninth, we celebrate Ginninghod by putting on shows and
re-enactments of the ferocious battle between Ghod and the monster within
the Void.
Currently, thanks to the newly developed
techniques of Tiphereth Tesliah, we have stationed a pyrotech house as
far in as Overworld Hawaii. We have a team of specialists there running
tests on the properties of the gaping hole. Hopefully we find the truth
of Ginningagap.
