Tuesday night, the Election Oversight Committee invalidated the votes cast for the office of ASCMC Vice President. Refusing to count the ballots, the Election Oversight Committee determined that the vote on Tuesday had been influenced unjustly. More precisely, the Election Oversight Committee alleges that JEN and I worked outside the bounds of ASCMC campaign election law.
Jen and I were informed about the Election Oversight Committee's decision at a little after 10:00 PM Tuesday night. Calling Jen and me into the ASCMC office, the Committee told us what their decision was, and provided a list of ALLEGED campaign violations by both candidates. The Committee, however, declined to explain in detail how it came up with the allegations.
It is important to remember that the charges brought against Jen and me are merely ALLEGATIONS. The Election Oversight Committee has not provided information, in the form of hard evidence or otherwise, on why such charges were brought against us. The Election Oversight Committee has also declined to call a public hearing for Jen and me to defend ourselves against the allegations. Simply, the Election Oversight Committee is not fostering due process.
Moreover, the Committee rejected a mutual proposal made by Jen and myself that requested that the ballots cast on Tuesday be counted and that the race for the Vice Presidency be decided Tuesday night along with the other campus-wide elections.
The election for ASCMC Vice President, therefore, will take place once again. The second Vice President election date is Friday, February 25. Once again, you can vote outside of Collins Dinning Hall at the posted dinner hours, at the Apartments 45 minutes after Collins' lunch hours or 45 minutes before Collins' dinner hours, or you can vote by absentee ballot. |
