Attendance Policies
· Pamantasan follows the semestral calendar. The first semester starts in mid-June and end in mid-October. A semestral break is held for two weeks. The second semester starts in the first week of November and ends in the third week of March.
· Summer classes runs for six weeks from the mid- April to the end of May.
· Classes are held from Mondays to Fridays. For AY 2003-2004, Wednesday will be used for research work, student club activities, and community service.
A. Student Responsibility
All students are required to attend classes regular and on time. If and when the student is tardy or absent, he is expected to assume full responsibility for all activities and requirement due of him/her for the classes missed.
B. Failure due to absent
A student who ceases to attend classes in the course of the semester such that he/she exceeds the maximum allowable excused and unexcused absences will be given a grade of 5.0.
C. Maximum Allowable Unexcused absence
The maximum unexcused absence of a student per semester is not more than 20% of the class hours. Hence in a TTH(3 units), a student is not allowed to exceed 7 class meetings of unexcused absences, and 11 unexcused absences for an MWF class in a 3- units course . Computation may vary in 5, 4, or 2-unit subjects defending on the number of lecture/laboratory hours.
D. Tardiness
1. Three instances of tardiness are equivalent to one (1) absence. 2. A student is considered absent if he arrives in the class within fifteen (15) minutes of the scheduled class period. He is marked late of half-absent in the professor’s daily attendance record. 3. A student is considered absent if he arrives in the class fifteen (15) minutes of the schedules class period, he may attend the class but will be marked absent. This will be applied to classes held from Mondays to Fridays.
E. Late Enrolment
Time lost due to late enrolment is considered time lost by absence unless these steps are accomplished:
1. The student applies for his absence to be excused. 2. The faculty considers the absence excused.
F. Excused Absences
Excuse absences are limited to the following cases:
1. Absence because of an official assignments or special delegation by the President/Dean/Academic Supervisors (e.g. seminars, meeting, competitions) and approved by the administration. 2. Death of an immediate member of one’s family, duly certified (immediate member refers to mother, father, brother or sister, spouse and/or children if married). 3. Severe illness, or accidents, duly certified by attending physician. In this case, the student may be advised to take a leave of absence.
G. Waiting Period
1. A student should wait or the instructor within: § 15 minutes after the start of a 60 minute class period. § 20 minutes after the start of a 90 minute class period. § 45 minutes after the start of a 3 hours class period.
