Paks vs. Cadence
Cadence stands still for a moment, his head tilted as if listening to some unheard noise. Pulling two sticks out of his messy purple hair, he rapidly beats them together. The sound of a heartbeat fills the air. Soon paks realizes that it is his heartbeat he hears. Cadence slows his rhythm, also slowing the beating of paks heart. If something is not done soon, paks will have no heartbeat at all, and his blood will lie still within his body.
Paks hears the slowing of Cadences sticks. He feels his heart fall into the rhythm of the beat. He smiles and closes his eyes. He concentrates on his heart and the blood, the water of his tissues and the blood itself. Paks takes the water and heats it slightly. He begins to move his heart in his own rhythm, that of the sea. His heart begins to beat faster, until it once again beats to its own time. Paks looks at Cadence and tilts his head slightly. He raises his arms, the sun reflecting off the sword and dagger he carries. He angles the blades until a sharp piercing light blinds cadence momentarily. In that moment Paks chants a spell you cannot hear. The sun no longer blocks your sight , replaced with clouds, the clouds open up at paks command and begin to pour down rain , drop upon drop , until a small pool forms at your feet. You realize you are standing in the water as Paks motions towards you and lightning streaks across the sky , heading directly for you
Cadence watches the clouds overhead calmly. Everyone knows that lightning and thunder go together. And thunder is easy enough to control. Putting his sticks back in his hair, Cadence claps his hands three times. After the third time complete silence fills Kuri. The rain still falls, but its pitter patter seems to dissolve into nothing before the noise actually appears. Since the thunder can no longer roll, the lightning can no longer strike. Cadence ponders for a moment in the unnatural silence surrounding him. With a sudden change of expression, a grin slides across his face. Cadence starts dancing in the rain, spinning faster and faster and faster, until he can no longer see anything about him. The precise rhythm that keeps Kuri spinning correctly on her axis begins to follow Cadence’s movements. The planet shrieks through the silence, as her very core is corrupted. Spinning around at amazing speeds, Kuri barely holds herself together. Paks feels gravity increasing in amazing quantities. As the ground beneath paks feet begins to break and crumble, gravity threatens to draw him straight into the burning heart of Kuri.
paks looks on as cadence silences the skies and begins a frantic dance. Paks watches as Cadence spins, feeling his own feet getting heavier. He looks down as the ground beneath him crumbles and he falls deep into the earth, allowing himself to go with the gravity. Paks reaches out with his mind feeling the swirling effects of the spinning on the oceans themselves, he calls upon the seas " Hydroxis Oxorum Sufflitas " and saltwater flows from his hands into the fires below, quelling them at the first level allowing the planet to regain control of its own axis. As Cadence looks on he sees paks come rising out of the hole on a wave of saltwater which paks directs. Paks raises his hands and the wave grows larger and larger as he stands taller and taller still to his full height. The wave moves forward as Paks dives forward with it, riding it, dropping off of it at the last minute his sword and dagger moving as blades of a scissors, Paks smiles as he sees the wave about to smash Cadence even as the blades seek to cut him in half ....
Cadence taps his staff on the ground. Groaning and creaking can be heard from the depths of Kuri. A large pillar of rock shoots up through the soil where Cadence stands and lifts him high up into the air. The tidal wave crashes into the ground, with paks still riding it. Watching from a safe distance above the ground, Cadence laughs as the pillar holding him does not move in the slightest as paks’ threat proceeds on its course. Grinning, he pulls the two sticks from his hair once again. Beating them together in an unusually familiar rhythm, the pits of Kuri once again release their rage, though this time in a different way. Kuri's surface expands and shrinks along with Cadence's rhythm. The heartbeat of Kuri released. As the planet expands the air gets thin and cold, as it collapses the heat intensifies almost beyond belief. Freezing and boiling in its turn. Paks' lungs also react to the change in air, suffocating from humidity and heat in one moment, and from cold and oxygen depleted air in the next. Cadence continues his beating from his perch high up above the chaos that is now Kuri, wondering to himself whether paks would rather explode or implode.
paks Watches as the pillar of rock lifts Cadence away from the wave and his blades. Feeling the attack as it proceeds, Paks feels his lungs react to cadences' rhythm and is most glad for his time swimming with his pet. As he did so many times before Paks slows his breathing down to only two beats a minute, so slow that the rhythm is out of synchronization with his body. He becomes as one with the heat and cold , taking the small gift of oxygen from the heat and slowly expelling it when the wave of cold hits him. He dives into the receding water watching the pillar as he disappears from view. As Cadence stands upon the pillar he notices a fog enveloping the area. It is so thick he can barely see anything but several shadows moving in the fog around him. The fog becomes a heavy mist and then rain , pouring down all around him. Paks emerges from the rain and smiles as ice sheets begin to cover the pillar, making it heavier and heavier , Paks chants and from the valley comes a thunderous crash as an iceberg emerges filled with spikes of ice as strong as the hardest steel, the Iceberg plunges into the pillar knocking Cadence off the pillar , sending him flying downwards towards the swordlike spikes of ice.....
Cadence spreads his arms as he falls, as if flying down from the heavens. Watching as the pillar descends as well, Cadence ponders over what to do when he hits the ice. Knowing that with how high up he was he'll have plenty of time to fall, he pulls the two sticks from his hair, and begins knitting furiously. About twenty Cadence-lengths from the spikes of ice, Cadence finishes his knitting, having made his very own magic carpet. Spreading it out beneath him, Cadence soars through the air along the top of the iceberg, happy and safe as can be.
