Looking at me, you'd think that I'm not the kind of girl that would be into karate. When people would ask me about myself, I'd say "I'm a brown belt in karate." And I love to see the surprised looks on their faces. My Lola once asked me why, of all things, did I decide to join karate. I answered her without any hesitation, "Para maiba." Yup, that's me. Like that Pop Soda commercial says "Be iba."
There's this certain comment that my friend made that I would never forget. He said, "Hindi ka mukang nagkakarate. Muka kang nagbballet." I just laughed and agreed with him. It is true that I look more of the ballet type of girl but that is why you should never judge a book by its cover. Sometimes people at my school would do karate stances and shout "Hiyaaa!" when I pass by. On a good day, I'd smile sweetly and just move on. But on a really good day, I'd smile sweetly and playfully kick someone's head. I practice my control that way. And the person, whose head I just kicked, would never mock me again.
I love surprising people. I tend to even surprise them too much and they just end up wanting to hit me several times with a wooden board. But that's another story. Surprises for me, makes life interesting. So if people think I'm not the type to do karate, they're in for a big surprise.
