Walter

I watched him sleep, curled up on his side, his face sweet with an almost childlike serenity in repose.

Carefully so as not to wake him, I spooned myself around his slender frame. I settled down against him, feeling the warmth of his body, listening to the gentle rhythmic breathing. Gently I kissed the space between his shoulders, smiling as he murmured and snuggled against me. Wrapping my arm around his waist I closed my eyes, a final thought drifting through my mind before sleep overtook me as well.

Mine…Alex was mine.

Alex

I was not sure what had woken me, possibly it was the soft early morning light steaming in through the half open window.

Walter was cuddled up against me, his arm resting heavily around my waist. Carefully I moved, trying to dislodge it without waking him up. With a soft grunt Walter tightened his grip around me, pulling me against his chest. Then he rolled over, taking me with him until I found myself lying on top of him, both his arms wrapped around me like I was some kind of half assed teddy bear or something.

I couldn't help but grin at the situation I had found myself in. The man was a snuggler all right and damn strong to boot. There was no way I was getting out of his grip without a struggle that wouldn't end with me not waking him up. Oh well, may as well stay where I was.

Surrendering with good grace, I laid my head against his chest, listening to the slow beat of his heart. Closing my eyes, I drifted back off into a warm comfortable sleep listening to his heart beat, secure in the knowledge that Walter would be here when I woke up.

Walter

Waking up with a soundly sleeping Alex draped over me made me realize how much my life had changed. I realize now, for better or worse that things would be different. A whole galaxy of different. But that was just fine with me.

Carefully, so as not to disturb him, I moved out from underneath him. Alex gave a soft moan, then burrowed down under the quilt. Leaving him to his slumber, I padded barefoot out to the kitchen to start breakfast.

I made some coffee, then after pouring myself a cup, I carried it out to the balcony. It was still early morning, the air felt crisp and clean, I breathed in a lungful, enjoying this rare moment when everything was so still.

//What are you doing Walter?// That insidious little voice was back, creeping up with all the stealth of a mouse.

//Do you really think you can tame a creature like Alex Krycek? Do you think he will stay with you? A balding middle aged man? You have to be delusional.// It sneered.

"Fuck off." I told it cheerfully. The voice retreated in shock, hopefully never to appear again.

No, Alex was mine, I had claimed him for my own and no matter what happened, I fully intended to keep him.

With these thoughts so fully occupying my mind, I never heard him come up behind me. Suddenly an arm wound it's way around my waist and a soft pair of lips began nuzzling into my neck.

With a grin of complete satisfaction, I leaned into the embrace, happier than I have ever been for a long time.

"Hungry baby?" I asked. I felt rather than saw Alex nod his head.

"Come on inside then, I'll make you some breakfast."

"Mmm, I'm hungry but not for food." Alex replied, a wicked glint in his eye. Taking me firmly by the hand, he led me back into the bedroom. Laughing with sheer delight, I followed him, allowing myself to be led not only back to bed...but to a whole new life."

Epilogue

Ten Years Later

I leaned up against the tree, watching as Walter split some logs for the fireplace. Even though we had a good heating system in the cabin that we shared, we still preferred the intimacy of an open fireplace.

I loved watching him, shirtless, sweat making his skin glisten, and don't even get me started on those muscles. He notices me and gives me a smile, I smile back, my heart swelling with love for this man.

Oh don't get me wrong, things have not always been easy, two guys sharing a home, sharing their lives. There were times when things got pretty rocky, especially when Mulder found out about his boss fucking his worst enemy. I can still remember the confrontation, Mulder red faced with rage ignoring Walter's explanations. It had finally finished with Mulder taking a swing at me, catching me on the mouth, drawing blood. Then with Mulder lying face down over Walter's knees getting his bare ass tanned while being told in no certain terms that he was never EVER to lay a hand on me again. By the time Walter was done spanking Mulder's backside, he was wailing promises that from now on, he would keep his hands, not to mention his fists off me.

And I have to say, Mulder kept to his word, amazing how a well spanked butt can change your point of view.

It took awhile but Mulder finally accepted us. It was slow but we were finally able to build a friendship, the final barriers dropping between us.

Walter retired from the FBI and we came out to live here in the mountains, just the two of us, plus a couple of dogs and an overfed tabby cat called Pwywacket.

Later when things began to fall apart, Mulder joined us, with both Doggett and Scully in tow. They had managed to escape the colonization. Walter and I helped them build their own cabin close to ours, it was damned hard work and and it took quite some time, materials being hard to get. But finally we finished it. It's small but comfortable and the three of them are happy just knowing that they are safe, even if it's only for awhile.

Scully and Doggett are expecting a baby and it will be here in the next couple of months. Mulder, knowing that they need their space now what with the impending birth, moved back into our cabin. It took a little coaxing and a lot of reassurance, but he shares our bed now, and our lives.

What will happen to the human race now is anybody's guess. The aliens have entrenched themselves into every country on the planet. Already reports such as they are sound grim.

We will fight, I know that in my heart. I know it because Walter is a fighter as is Mulder. And Doggett and Scully are no slouches in that department either. We will fight even though there is no guarantee that we will win, or even come out of this with our lives, but we will fight, and we will live as best we can.

Watching Walter, my mind drifts back to that night when he first caught me in his bedroom. When he captured me and refused to let me go. I smile at the memory, thinking about how far we had come and how much further we still had to go....and you know something, I would not change anything, not for all the world.
