In 1993, came the news that Seekers fans never thought they would hear - the original Seekers were back together! Initially, one reunion concert was planned, but the fans wouldn't let The Seekers go again so soon - the tour continued for 2 years, playing to over 100 venues! Several new songs were introduced, including 'Keep a Dream in your Pocket', the live version of which was released on the Silver Jubilee video. Click on the picture to see a clip of this video. After two years of touring, the group took a break, during which time Judith Durham released a cover version of Bruce Woodley's 'I am Australian' as a single (right). Bruce had first released this song as a duet with his Daughter Claire prior to the reunion and The Seekers made it their own with a live version in 1993. I have featured here a medley of three versions of 'I am Australian', starting with The Seekers, then Bruce and ending with Judith's version.
There have been calls recently to make 'I am Australian' the country's new national anthem, replacing the current one - which The Seekers also recorded for a performance at the AFL finals in 1994 (see pic). Decide which is best after listening to 'Advance, Australia Fair'.
1994 - '96 was Judith's most productive to date for solo projects. Two full albums were made; 'Let me find Love', a collection of songs mostly self-penned and 'Mona Lisas', which was also released in Australia with slightly different tracks as 'Always There'. From these albums came Judith's 'It's hard to leave' and her cover of 'Turn Turn Turn', both of which she has also sung with The Seekers.
In 1997 The Seekers signed with EMI in the biggest deal in Australian Music history. The first result of this new contract was the wonderful single 'Far Shore'.
