Geoff Thompson
I had been interested in Martial Arts/Self Defence for several years when I discovered a man who has become a hero of mine.
Geoff Thompson was someone who had been a Doorman ( "Bouncer" to the public) for 9 years,a skilled Martial Artist and a genuine "hardman" who was ready to admit that he feels fear in violent confrontations (and to help others learn to cope with their fears).
He also confirmed my belief that there is no one "perfect" martial art when it comes to self defence. His knowledge of fighting arts is immense :- ABA Boxing Coach,Wrestling Coach (several styles), 5th Dan Black Belt Karate,1st Dan Judo,1st Dan Modga Kung Fu, and also skilled in Aikido and Ju-Jitsu. Add to that 9 years "on the door" of pubs and nightclubs in Coventry and you can trust his opinions on the subject.
Geoff has written many books about self-protection,fighting skills etc. He has made training videos for serious Martial Artists,he has written scripts for stage, screen and TV and has appeared in countless magazines as well as television. He is a coach with the British Combat Association and has taught his self-defence techniques to Police,Military and Bodyguards. Geoff 's advice can be found in his books/videos -for details check out the Geoff Thompson Website

I would highly recommend the following books by Geoff Thompson:- All three books in the "Bouncer" series (laughs, advice and entertainment) - "Watch My Back- A Bouncer's Story " "Bouncer " "On The Door" Plus "Dead or Alive" (guide to self protection) "Fear -The Friend of Exceptional People" (guide to controlling fear) For prices etc. see Geoff Thompson website or send an sae to:- Geoff Thompson PO Box 307 Coventry West Midlands CV3 2YP |
Krav Maga
One Martial Art I would recommend is Krav Maga. This system was developed in Israel for use by their Military and Police. The system is now widely used in the USA and Europe (system is used by several US Police Departments). Unfortunately Krav Maga has only really taken off in Southern England at the moment - so Northerners like myself will have to wait a little longer to begin training, (I have had a few taster sessions and found the system practical and fun to train in) U.K. Contact address:- Alwyn Dixon,6 Park Close, Stevenage,Herts.,SG2 8PX |
