WINTER   BEACH

Winter has come to the beach
even her friend the seal has fled
the dreams that were within  their reach
turn to could have beens instead

His footprints are covered by the tide
removing the proof of his lonely walks
The moon and stars conspire to hide
since she left their late night talks

Now a solitary form, cold and alone
stands facing the coming of morn
His flesh freezing, his heart becoming stone
as he curses the day he was born

"This was ours", he cries, "just for you and I"
the water swallows the sound of his voice
as he continues to  walk and to cry
alone again..again not by his choice
