Black Falcons

KING ROLAND, THE BLACK FALCON

Roland is the eldest stepson of the old King of Yellowcastle, and is also quite a bit older than the king's blood son, Reginald. Roland and his stepfather were very close, and so Roland always resented Reginald's place of privilege and destiny to inherit the throne. Still, now that Roland is in command of the kingdom, he has gone out of his way to be accommodating to his brothers, for the sake of familial and political peace. He is a gruff but loving man, ambitious, but devoted to his subjects. He is married to Queen Ginella and is the father of Prince Rupert and Princess Beryl.

QUEEN GINELLA

Ginella is the daughter of a noblewoman who once courted the old King of Yellowcastle. She married King Roland shortly before the partition and has stood at his side, as his partner and equal and loyal companion, through all of the trouble that has rocked the kingdom. In times of war and strife, it has been Queen Ginella who has held the family together. Now that the kingdom is peaceful, her attention is focused on her son, Prince Rupert, who Ginella fears has been embittered by the years of conflict.

PRINCE RUPERT

As the only son and eldest child of King Roland the Black Falcon and Queen Ginella, Rupert has enjoyed a life of luxury, but has also witnessed firsthand the horror of war. This juxtaposition has created a somberness in him. Rupert's sour outlook is compounded by the fact that his family is as divided as his kingdom, as his father's political enemies are Rupert's own uncles. Now a grown man in his own right, Rupert travels his kingdom, along with his companions Glumberg and Princess Elisa, and trying to do right by his people whenever and wherever he can, either by way of his diplomatic talents or his skill with his black sword, Glades. He hopes to one day rule a peaceful and united kingdom and be the head of a loving and united family.

PRINCESS BERYL

Beryl is the younger child of King Roland and Queen Ginella. She is only a few years junior to Prince Rupert, yet the difference is enough that Beryl either did not witness or does not remember most of the horrors of the war years. As a result, she is considerably happier and better adjusted than her brother. She has no interest in questing and honestly doesn't understand her brother's preoccupation with it. Furthermore, she is a rival of Princess Elisa's, as both of them seek the love of the dashing young peasant, Fritz.

GLUMBERG

Glumberg's father was one of the most important vassals in the service of King Roland. As such, Glumberg and Prince Rupert grew up together and are dear friends, as well as very, very distant cousins. The two are almost always together, whether at home or on a quest. Glumberg is typically grouchy but has a soft heart. He's no wizard, but he is a master of riddles and parlor tricks, and it's said that his staff--a family heirloom--was crafted by an ancestor of Majisto's. Glumberg also has uncanny intuition and sense of direction, and is proficient at orienteering, tracking, and similar skills.
