Those Loyal to Princess Elisa, Daughter of the Black Monarch

PRINCESS ELISA

Princess Elisa is the daughter of King Frederick, the late Black Monarch. When her father passed away, Elisa and her matron, the faithful Deirdre, were sent into exile by Elisa's uncle, Alistair the Dungeon Master, who took possession of the Black Monarch's lands. As a result, Elisa has grown up as a princess without a kingdom. Only her personal servants at her palatial estate remain loyal to her over her uncle. Fortunately, Elisa was watched over and protected by another uncle, King Roland, who knew Elisa might one day grow up to be a powerful political ally. Elisa therefore grew up with Prince Rupert and Glumberg and joins them in their questing whenever possible. Unusually wise and sensitive, she hopes to one day take back her throne and avenge the death of her father. . .who she is certain was poisoned by her ambitious uncle.

DEIRDRE

Deirdre was a lady-in-waiting and dear friend of the noblewoman who married King Frederick. When the king and his wife had a daughter, Princess Elisa, Deirdre was put in charge of the child. Sadly, Elisa's mother died when Elisa was still an infant, but Deirdre was there always, and she loved and raised the child as her own. When King Frederick also died and King Alistair took over, Deirdre stayed at Elisa's side when the princess was sent into exile. Deirdre's dream is to see Elisa returned to her rightful station. She often accompanies Elisa and her companions on their journeys, and she is always on the lookout for a way to bring justice down upon the duplicitous Alistair.

KING FREDERICK, THE BLACK MONARCH

Frederick was the third eldest son of the old King of Yellowcastle. He was prone to bouts of depression all his life, but he sank to a new low when his young wife, the mother of his baby daughter Elisa, passed away suddenly. He died soon after. In his will, he left all of his land and wealth to his young brother, Alistair, to whom he had been close. There was a stipulation, however: that Alistair care for Elisa as his own daughter, and that she inherit the crown upon reaching adulthood. Sadly, that order was never fulfilled. Elisa was sent into exile--a fact which surely would have depressed poor Frederick all the more.

KING ALISTAIR, THE DUNGEON MASTER

Alistair was the youngest of the four sons of the old King of Yellowcastle. As such, he inherited the least in the partition of the kingdom. When Alistair's next-eldest brother, Frederick, passed away, his lands, armies, and treasury were passed on to Alistair. Frederick's will stipulated that Alistair was to care for Frederick's daughter, Princess Elisa, as his own, but instead, Alistair sent Elisa into exile. He had no intention of giving up the wealth he had gained. Since that time, Alistair has grown in power and influence and is one of the major players in royal affairs. He is also mysterious, and a wild card, and is a source of much worry for his two remaining brothers.

MAJISTO THE WIZARD

Majisto is an ancient sage who lives in the mountainous region of King Alistair's realm. When Alistair grew tired of the constant power struggles in the kingdom, he sought Majisto's help. Alistair knew that Majisto's powerful magic might give him the edge in battle. It did. Majisto harnessed the power of dragons and used their awesome might to best Alistair's rivals. Majisto himself is a bit of an oddball; he's extremely forgetful and absent-minded, yet possesses an unrivaled brilliance when it comes to all things magical and technological. He is principled, however. He will not use his power for the purpose of despotism, and he helped Alistair because he believed Alistair was most fit to rule. (The fact that Alistair promised to protect Majisto from the political and religious authorities who sought to put him down didn't hurt, though.) The only person Majisto truly despises is his former apprentice, Willa, who betrayed him by defecting to the Black Falcon's side and is now dabbling in evil magic.
