"I'd advise you to put that down, now." The balding man said with a wry grin on his face.
The balding man's friend hesitated but did not release the object in his hand. Beautiful gray-blue eyes questioned the balding man silently as their owner tilted his head with it's ridiculous hat set perfectly in place.
"You heard me, put it down." The sound of the balding man's voice was raspy and pleading.
'But,...."
"No,'but's. No 'if' and no crazy stories. OK." The balding man gave his friend a grin that transformed his plain face with its rather large nose into a handsome, green-eyed visage. "Please, for the third time. Put that down."
Beautiful gray-blue eyes looked seriously from his hand to his friends startling emerald-green eyes. Again, his head tilted. He leaned back and quizzically concentrated on the object in his hand.
"In your hands, that's a weapon you know." The balding man sighed. He placed his own hands calming on the wooden surface between him and his friend. "You have noticed that today I am wearing a new suit. Please tell me that you did notice that fact."
"Well, you did point it out to me rather clearly when you arrived this morning. Though how you thought that I would fail to notice that fact is..."
"Here we go. Ramble number 2,000,000. Just note: new suit. An expensive new suit."
"I couldn't fail to notice that fact." said the man with the beautiful gray-blue eyes.
"OK. OK." The balding man relaxed and leaned back. He looked up and grinned. "Beautiful day. Not hot, not cold. Gorgeous weather."
Beautiful gray-blue eyes surveyed the grass and trees around the wooden table and noted the roller bladders, walkers and bike riders touring the paved path that ran through dappled sunlit area of the park. He smiled back at his friend who again looked daggers at him for not putting the item in his hand down on the table surface.
"But, it was you who taught me to use this, was it not?"
"Yea, but that was before I learned to see any thing in your hands as a potential lethal weapon."
Just as beautiful gray-blue eyes was about to respond to his friend a loud shriek escaped a young girl nearby. She had been knocked off her feet by a young man who took off if the opposite direction on his roller blades with the girl's purse dangling from his hand.
Beautiful gray-blue eyes quickly threw the item he had been holding in his hand down on the table top and rose from his seat. He took off after the boy on the skates. The balding man gasped, sighed and then rose to his feet. He pulled his suit coat jacket back and removed his police shield. He quietly crossed the grassy area to where the young girl sat crying and knelt down beside her. "Don't
worry, that blur that took off past you a moment ago will no doubt return with your purse in a moment." He helped her up and introduced himself as a police officer. "You OK? You didn't get hurt when you fell, did you?"
Brown hair with red highlights shot through it settled on the girl's shoulder as she turned her head to look up at the concerned look on the balding man's face. "No, I'm all right. Don't worry about the purse." She grinned. "I learned a long time ago not to carry my money in it." She patted her hip pocket where her wallet no doubt rested safely. "There's a lot of expensive makeup in that purse
though."
The balding man put his hand on her arm and gently steered her over to the table where he and his friend had been sitting just moments ago.
The girl sat down and looked appreciatively at the table top. "Oh, I am sorry."
"Naw, don't worry about it." He grinned. "It's my job."
It was at this point that beautiful gray-blue eyes returned carrying the young ladies purse. "I'm sorry, but the strap broke when he tried to take this over a fence with him." He handed the leather pouch to the young lady.
The girl thanked them both. Her warm smile causing the balding man to grin and beautiful gary-blue eyed man to blush. She went on her way after explaining that she needed to return to work.
The two men surveyed the table and sighed. They began picking up the remains of their lunch to resume eating. Beautiful gray-blue eyes picked up the same item he had had in his hand before the disturbance. The balding man grunted and pointed at his suit coat.
"Oh Dear," gray-blue eyes started to set the bottle he was holding back down on the table.
"Go ahead. Use it. The damage is already done." The balding man picked up his sandwich. "You'd think by now I'd have learned not to wear my stuff around you."
"I am sorry." Gray-blue eyes starred at the very prominent stain on his friends new suit jacket.
"I don't want to hear it. OK." The balding man suddenly grinned. "Hey, you gonna use that stuff or what?"
