Rated T. (For `this author needs major help') Gen. Nothing offensive (but I'd love it if you fell off your chair at the ending).

Nightmares and Dreamscapes

by: M-A

Fraser knew he was no longer in the Borderlands. It was dark here, and cold. He felt a tremor. Could it be fear?

"What is this place?" he called out into the darkness.

"The Dark Place beyond the Borderlands" a voice whispered in his ear.

Fraser jumped, his heart pounding. "Who are you?"

"That who decides who goes to the Light beyond the Borderlands, and that who decides who goes to the Dark."

"Am I dead?"

"Your corporeal existence has indeed ceased."

"Why am have I been sent to the darkness?"

"You do not deserve eternal light, Benton Fraser."

Fraser had thought himself a humble man until this moment. But a humble man would surely never pose the question he was about to put forth. "How can I not deserve eternal light?"

"In your corporeal existence, have you not killed? Stolen? Betrayed friends? Used lies and deceptions to achieve your purposes?"

"Yes, but--"

"You hid behind a mask, Benton Fraser. You made others believe that you were pure and virtuous. You shocked them with your lies and crimes and made them believe that you were not acting as your usual self. In essence, your very existence was a lie, because no man could be as people saw them. Yet you *let* them believe that you were! That is why you are here, not because of your actions, no matter their outcome."

"I--"

"*Enough!* *I* decide who goes to the Light and the Dark. You belong in the Dark with the person behind you. You know each other." Fraser turned around slowly, his blood chilling when he saw a faint glow of something before him. The glow coalesced into something he recognized and he bit back a scream.

The apparition spoke.

"I told you I'd see you here, Ben-ton."

End.
