The Blessing of Waters
§ Let a table be set in the midst of the temple and on it
be placed a cloth to cover it, and a blessing cross, a stoup of water to
be consecrated and a sprinkler.
§ If this service is used on Epiphany, it takes place
in the Qurbana immediately before the Creed. In the Qurbana, the Service
ends with the Hymn "By Thy Baptism" and the Sprinkling of the People. If
the Service is used on any other day, it takes place outside the Qurbana
and stands alone, ending with a Second Qauma and the Dismissal below.
The First Qauma
† IN THE NAME of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
One God, to whom be glory and upon us, weak and sinful, be mercy and compassion
in both worlds unto the Aeon of aeons.
Amen.
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Tzevaoth, heaven and earth are full of
Thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. † Blessed is He that comes in the Name
of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
† HOLY art Thou, O God!
Holy and mighty, holy and immortal, Who was crucified for us: have
mercy on us!
† HOLY art Thou, O God!
Holy and mighty, holy and immortal, Who was crucified for us: have
mercy on us!
† HOLY art Thou, O God!
Holy and mighty, holy and immortal, Who was crucified for us: have
mercy on us!
O Christ, hear us! O Christ, our God, hear us and have mercy! O
Christ, our God and King, hear us and have mercy and compassion on us!
Barekhmar!
OUR Father,
Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will
be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against
us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for † Thine
is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
Peace be with thee, Virgin Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with
thee. Blessed art thou among women and blest is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray
for us sinners in both worlds. Amen.
The Prayer of Exorcism
ALMIGHTY God, Creator of all things visible and invisible, Thou didst create
the heavens and the earth and the seas and all the hosts therein. Thou
didst gather the waters together into one place and didst ring the oceans
with the bounds of the shore. Thou didst make the firmament and didst divide
the waters which were below from the waters which were above. Thou didst
establish the seas firmly in Thy might. Thou didst break the heads of the
dragons hidden in their depths. Thou art awesome, and who dares to stand
against Thee? We beseech thee, O Lord, to drive away from this water all
that may cause harm to Thy creatures who are called after Thy great and
almighty Name, which all the powers of the adversary dread.
§ The Priest breathes on the water thrice crosswise,
saying:
BREAK in pieces † the head of the dragon, the murderer of humanity,
beneath the weight of Thy Cross.
DRIVE away † from this water all the aerial and invisible demons.
LET not the spirit of darkness † remain in it.
§ The deacon says:
Stomen kalos!
Kyrie eleison!
Let us bow our heads unto the Lord!
To Thee, O Lord.
The Consecration
HEAR me, O Lord! Hear me, O Lord! Hear me, O Lord, and have mercy!
Kyrie eleison! Kyrie eleison! Kyrie eleison!
§ The Priest traces crosses in the water with the blessing
cross, saying:
MAY THE Holy Spirit abiding here make these waters of cleansing †,
Amen.
Waters of healing †,
Amen.
Waters of protection †,
Amen.
And waters of blessing †.
Amen.
Hymn
§ The People are sprinkled by the Priest as this Hymn is
sung.
By Thy baptism, Christ our God,
Thou sanctifiest Jordan's flow.
Thou madest it the fount of grace
And saved Thy People here below.
The sign of Jonah and of John,
Thy resurrection's sign in us,
Have brought us safe into Thy Church
And from our sin delivered us.
§ If the Service takes place within the Qurbana on Epiphany,
it ends here and the Qurbana is resumed with the Creed. If not, then continue
with what follows hereafter.
The Second Qauma
† HOLY art Thou, O God!
Holy and mighty, holy and immortal, Who was crucified for us: have
mercy on us!

Dismissal
O CHRIST, our God, through the prayers of our holy Fathers and Mothers,
the Saints, and most especially the prayers of St John Thy Forerunner who
did baptize Thee in the River Jordan for the salvation of the world; have
mercy and compassion upon us and save our souls and bring us to everlasting
life.
Amen.
