KINGDOM HEARTS II KAIRI COSTUME

Worn at: Otakon 2006

Video Game: Kingdom Hearts II

Intro: In contrast to the first Kairi, this must be one of my better costumes, yet one of my more plainer ones. I did this costume to match my sister Tin's Aerith cos for Otakon 2006 Friday. Although being moogle girls last year was fun, we found that if we did full fledge costumes, we got better deals and less attitude from dealers at the dealer's room. These seemed simple enough. I loved the final outcome, even if no one else noticed my hard work. I may not be the skinniest or prettiest Kairi or have the shortest dress or most accurate hair, but I love wearing this cosplay nonetheless. It needs to be taken in alot though xD

Construction Notes:

Hair: Brushed out and left down, simple and clean (pun intended xD) ^_^ I didn't have time to color it though. Pooh ;_;

Necklace: I didn't make or get an accurate Kairi necklace. Instead I thought I add some unique-ness and use a necklace a close friend of mine gave me a while ago for my birthday. It's a key in the shape of a heart. Kingdom Hearts. Get the relation ^^?

Hood: I magically drafted a pattern from the top of my head for a hood. Sewed, hemmed, and ironed some black cotton and pinned it to the top.

Top: I borrowed a white lace tank top from Tin ^_^ So close to perfection for a ready made top ^^

Dress: OMG. My best sewing project ever...like EVER!!!! Fully sewn, no short cuts, no hot glue. Made from two layers of thick, denim like pink material that cost me more than half of my allowance xD Which is weird since the most I ever spend on fabric is like $3 a yard (haha welcome to New York and my love for the competitive prices). I remade the pattern like 3 times, the first 2 times the dress was either too short or too tight. Plus I used super flimsy material and crappy lining. Glad I took the initiative to redo the dress with a better drafted pattern (made by me like usual xD) and material. I even sewed lace in between the back panel's layers ^____^ All three zippers were hand sewn X_X but well worth it because I can throw the dress on and off easily now. I really have to take in this dress though O.o

Belt, Pouch, and Bracelets: The belt used foam as a base and was wrapped in black cotton to match the hood. Silver rings were used to attach everything together. The side mini belts had no foam though, they were just hemmed and ironed.  The pouch's base was made of cardboard and hard felt. Again, it was covered with black cotton to match the hood. The ribbon on it was made from lavender satin (originally used to make Kairi from KHI's skirt xD) to match my boot covers (see below). The bracelets were just simply cut bands of foam and painted to match the color of Kairi's.

Shoes: I was gonna make boot covers with felt and my hotglue gun, but I ran out of time and just used giant chunky shoes. I also had to wear dark tights which ruined the "Kairi Effect" lol. BWHAHAHA I finally made Kairi boot covers!! And I love them muchly <3 The giant chunky shoe effect was well played here. My base was my old running sneakers from Sketchers (lol what is with me and cosplay and Sketchers xD??) Since they were anke cut, I had to make the shoe bigger and higher. I used foam and felt. Then, I covered it with the lavender satin to match the pouch's ribbon (again, I originally used this material for my first Kairi's horrible skirt xD). Real eyelets were sewn so that the ribbons could have holes to run and lace through when I tie them up. I <3 these <3

Prop- Kingdom Key: OHHH I LOVE THIS THING TOO ^___^ <3 Made from a wooden stick, paper towel roll cardboard tube, electrical tape, foam board, paper mache, a chain, foam for the tag, blue felt. Painted silver and yellow. Since Kairi is a good chunk shorter than Sora, I decided to make an unproportioned keyblade that was larger than it was suppose to be. If I ever get around to do a Sora crossplay I will invest into making a smaller, lighter, more accurate keyblade. In the meantime, this one is good enough to play around with :3
