MY INTERPRETATION OF KINGDOM HEARTS VERSION RIKKU COSTUME (ANIMAEARIESGIRL ORIGINAL DESIGN)
![]() |
Worn at: Otakon 2004
Video Game: Based 50% Kingdom Hearts, 30% Final Fantasy X, 5% Final Fantasy X-2, and 5% of me originally! ^___^
Intro: Well, I will dub this first OFFICIAL costume ^_^ Even though I did a ghetto Rikku from FFX, it was only worn on Halloween ’03, not at a convention. I finally decided to stick to Rikku. Besides she is my fave character in the FF series, and I can relate to the most, like (again I mention!): short (her- 5’1, me floating somewhere around 5’0 soon), age (her- 15. Me- 14), and personality (BOTH BUBBLY AND KAWAII ^_^).
The problem was her FFX and even her FFX-2 costumes were WAAAAAAAAAAAY overdone. Even though I shouldn’t really care what other people do, I couldn’t help it. Otakon is a huge convention and I knew thousands of great Rikkus would be there, making rendition of her costume shameful. So I decided to mix one of my fave games (KH), plus my fave char (Rikku), plus a little of my creativity (or craziness), and it equaled THIS! I just started staring at Kingdom Hearts Yuffie and realized a lot of her costume patterns and styles were a lot like the ones I made to make Rikku’s!
So all in all I’m really proud of what I did and worked hard on it. Besides I’m only a teen with limited sewing skills and a ghetto sewing machine!!! Besides I go to wear it with my sis who was KH Aerith!
DISCLAIMER: Also guyz for this costume PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me some type of credit. Although the concept pic to the left was not from me, but the costume design that came out in the end WAS MINE! Please give me and the site credit if you are going to do the same Kingdom Hearts Rikku costume. THANX! So in other words, I DO CLAIM THIS DESIGN!
Construction Notes:
Top: Okie, unlike my ghetto Rikku costume I didn’t have a ready made top that perfectly fitted me. So this was one of my first really really big sewing project because if I didn’t make it right, my shirt would unravel during the convention! All in all it was a lot easier to do than I thought. I tried to make a pattern by tracing one of my tank tops, and it worked pretty well. Just used orange material, snipped out the pattern, and sewed with my Handi-Stich (a ghetto hand-held sewing machine)!
Shorts: Okie I decided to make my shorts last minute. GAWD it was harder than I thought (since I don't use patterns ^_^;;) but still do-able. Put trim and everything. More accurate but still not 100%...
Belt: At first I was gonna use the belt from my Ghetto FFX Rikku costume, but then a miracle came, I found the EXACT Rikku belt at Forever21 for $4.90. I bought it and sewed the yellow cloth on. Easy AND accurate ^_^
Gloves: After a hundred tries I finally got this right! Just
made gloves outta felt to match the boots, but it was SOOOO hard. Kept making
the gloves too small… Then, I decided to sew the fingers together by hand. Still
looks a tad bit crappy up-close, but alot more comfy n__n
Suspenders/Straps: I used a flat cloth belt and wrapped around the same type of
yellow cloth I used for my belt. Then I shaped it in a form of a “Y.” After this
I sewed on one of Rikku’s old ribbon holders where the “Y” connects. Ta-daa!
Boots: Wheee my first attempt at a boot cover and I must say I think it is quite impressive. Take a look at it in the Tutorial Section!
Goggles: Another easy thing that was left over from my Ghetto Rikku costume. Black goggles at Model’s for 7 bucks. I’m sure you can find cheaper ones, but my dad needed these for swimming anywayz. Again, I was lazy (and poor) and I didn’t make the red strap <sigh>
Headband: I have a purple head band…yea that’s it…
Hair: Just did it exactly like FFX-2 Rikku. Braids, ponytail, headband and all. Not easy for my sis, but all I had to do was sit back and relax!
Feathers: Yet again, re-used from the Ghetto Rikku. Tee hee, this is one of the more funnier and weirder costumes parts though. I bought really cheap and ugly looking feathers. Then I colored them with an orange washable marker and washed it. AMAZINGLY, it worked just like dye. Was very happy with this. ^_^
Scarf: Well this could have been easier to do. I could have just bought a cheap red scarf, or even bought some read material and hemmed it up. But NOOOOOOOO I have to go all out and crocheted it myself. Yup I learned to crochet just for this costume. I’m actually kinda happy I did make the scarf myself surprisingly though. Ahhh the things I do for my love of cosplay....
