SOUL CALIBUR III TALIM COSTUME

Worn at: Otakon 2006

Video Game: Soul Calibur III

Intro: Well since the first Talim costume I did from Soul Calibur II went off so well last year, I figured I'd do the second one. Unfortunately, this costume didn't turn out at all as what I expected and I sadly didn't wear it on the Otakon's Saturday, like I usually do for my main costumes. This cosplay thoroughly upset me and was done in a major rush, despite the amount of time that it was started in advance. Everything is put together with minimal sewing and a lot of hot gluing. It was the main reason why we arrived very late on Saturday, around late 5pm. We were in a major rush because the only thing left we had to hold on to was the Dealer's room which closed at 6pm. It upset me a lot that I couldn't match my sister and couldn't do battle poses. I do not look at this costume fondly. You won't be seeing me in this anytime in the future. But it served as a hard to swallow cosplay lesson. Plan your time management wisely, don't rush, and try to sew. Also, choose a costume that is a good style for your body type. And if you want to modify a costume to fit your body, take the time to re-design it, don't expect that elongating the top all the time will give the desired effect. I looked like a squished munchin in this costume ;__; Well at least my tonfas looked nice even if no one saw them at even if they aren't finished yet. My sister badly burned her thigh trying to hot glue them together though T___________T gah. horrible cosplay experience, makes me unmotivated to cosplay ever again and lose faith in my ability to cosplay period ;_; You will read pieces a part I loved things individually, but the main important things didn't pull through. Basically, I didn't look at the big picture only smalll details O.o Oh well I learned a lot xD

8/29/07: EDIT!!!! Okie even though I still don't LOVE this costume, I finally took up the courage to finally take photos in it. It's actually pretty photogenic, so it doesn't look as bad as it really is XD It's either I lost weight or the good quality fabric, which I bought at a sari store, really pulled it together! The color is so pretty ^^ So with these three new photos, I finally have regained my cosplay confidence ^^! So look for a remake sometime soon!

Construction Notes:

Incompleted Items: Hair clip, shoes/slippers, tonfa details, pants details, underwear thing O.o

Hair: 5 thick braids, my sister bought the hair ties <3

Necklace/Chocker: MY PRIDE AND JOY OF THE ENTIRE COSTUME! MY BEST PROP OF 2005! My beautiful necklace! YAY! I can probably use it again if I ever get around to making Talim's SCIII outfit. It is made from foam board, foam, rising/puff paint, gold acrylic paint, and a mix of gold and brown and black paint. TAL TAL LOVERRS HER TALIM NECKLACE! <== still the same this year lol. My pendant was re-painted. I used foam to reconstruct a new collar with a backing. It turned out beautifully again *.*

Bib: Aww I loved this thing too!! Made up of felt and ribbons <3

Top: Ugh I hated this thing to death. nuff said. The details were fine, I actually liked the design. If I had one more day I could have salvaged it. It's just the fit made me very upset.

Pants: WOULD have turned out nice if I didn't hot glue. It WOULD have been awesome if I had more material and sewn it better. DAMMIT! I could have been like Jasmine from Aladdin xD Instead the stuff glue made the fitting look like I had a HUGE butt O.o But the pattern still was amazing, I have to admit. Drafted from an online belly dancing site. I need to find that xD No details were added.

Arm Bands, Arm Guards and Ankle Bands: Foam constructed again. Details with rising paint. Painted over with gold and my gold/brown concotion yet again. Turned out AWESOME-ly <3

Ribbons: OMG i loved my ribbons too ^______^! They were made from the same red fabric as last year's Talim. I didn't hem for lack of time and fabric xD but it gave it a sort of battle worn effect that was beautiful. Also, the ribbon things at the ends were wooden sewing bobbins painted in gold with a lovely effect.

Shoes: I was just gonna flip flops xD

Prop- Default Tonfas: Re-made smaller and lighter. Made from foamboard, paper mache, toilet paper cardboard tubes, and foam spheres! Check the Tutorials Section. Thankkies Tin Tin, my beloved sis from above ^__^ She burned her lovely thigh for this ;__; <3
