The dark woods were silent
As I walked through.
I laughed at the sky
Because it was blue.
I laughed at the trees
Because they were dumb.
I laughed at the earth
And I laughed at the sun.
On the hilltop I sat
And I laughed at the people.
I laughed at the church
And I laughed at the steeple.
For they couldn't see
And they couldn't feel
All the things that I know,
All the things that aren't real.
And while
I was laughing
A thought came to me,
Carried by salt winds,
Blown from the sea.
Why am I laughing?
"Because," I lied.
And then I knew nothing at all
And I cried.
