Part Eight by Ashley Z and Rinny
Joey woke up in the center of the bed three days later, the solid warmth of
Pacey's body wrapped around hers. She blushed, just as she always did in the
morning and discreetly pulled away while he still slept. It didn't seem to
matter how far apart they were when they fell asleep, they always awoke in a
tangle limbs in the center of the bed. She watched him for a moment, his brown
hair messy, a sleepy sorta half smile on his face. Whatever he was dreaming
about, she didn't want to wake him just yet and ruin it. Tugging the hem of her
pajamas, she left to take a quick shower, giving him a few more minutes of sleep
before she had to end his dream.
Coming back into the room, a towel
wrapped like a turban around her hair, another wrapped around her body, she
circled the bed and gently shook his shoulder. "Come on, Pace. Time to get up.
Big day today."
He swatted at her hand and rolled onto his other side,
"Church isn't going anywhere."
"Pacey John Witter," She did her best
immitation of his mother. "Get your ass out of bed and marry me."
He
shook his head, "No. Bed warm and soft, you're mean."
"I can be warm and
soft too," she said enticingly.
He rolled onto his back and opened one
eye, "Don't do that. It's too early in the morning to tease me."
"You
need to get up," she folded her arms across her chest. "We need to be at the
church in half an hour."
He sighed and opened both eyes, "We were up
until the wee hours of the morning because of the rehersal dinner, why do we
have to get up so early?"
"Because that's when the church was free. You
agreed that a noon wedding wasn't too early, can't complain now." She used the
doe eyes on him, "Please?"
He rubbed his face, "Fine. But remember if I
fall asleep in the middle of our wedding, you made me wake up. Evil
wench."
She grinned, "I'll let you sleep when we get home. And it's a
good thing you agreed to get up," she said as he threw off the covers.
"Otherwise I would have had to flash you."
He laid back in the bed and
pulled the covers back over his body, "Oh, would you look at that, back in
bed."
"Nope, too late now." She gave him a teasing smile and crossed the
room to her overnight bag and began to pull out a set of clothes. Part of her
knew she shouldn't tease him, actually, all of her knew she shouldn't tease
him...it was like playing hacky sack with a grenade. Eventually, she'd push too
far and then...well, she wouldn't think about what would happen then. It would
complicate things.
He sat up and pushed the blankets off of him, "I'm
going to take a shower, and try to get the image of you flashing me out of my
head." He walked past her and slapped her on the ass as she bent over. She stood
up straight as he grinned over his shoulder at her, "You should learn not to
mess with me. I'll win every time."
"Make sure it's a cold shower,
Pacey!" She called after him.
He smirked and poked his head out of the
bathroom, "Never you mind about my shower, Potter. Unless you plan on joining
me," he grinned.
"Tomorrow," She called back a hint of promise in her
voice. She smiled to herself as she heard the bathroom door slam shut. She
really was cruel.
Joey chewed on her lower lip as Jen
slid the veil onto her head. "Why am I nervous?" She asked, smoothing the gauzy
material back over her head. "It's just Pacey, it's not like this means anything
anyways."
Jen rolled her eyes, "Here we go again. Just shut up and walk
down the aisle. Find out if means anything down the road."
"I know it
doesn't mean anything right now. Which is why I shouldn't be nervous...but,
ugh," She frowned at her reflection. "I look like a mess."
She shook her
head, "Joey, you look beautiful. So, stop worrying. Go out there and marry
Pacey. Stop worrying how you look. Everyone will have a heart attack when they
see how beautiful you are."
"Okay." Joey nodded her head, turning away
from the mirror. "Just answer two questions for me."
"I'll do my
best."
"Am I making a huge mistake?"
Jen shook her head, "No. As a
matter of fact, I think this is one of the smartest things you've ever
done."
"Okay, second question. Tell me where I'm going on my honeymoon? I
know Jack told you."
Jen shook her head with a smile, "I can't tell you.
Pacey would have my head. Let him surprise you, okay? You used to like that in
the past."
"Yeah, well, I used to like ET too," she rolled her
eyes.
Madeline, Pastor Rick's wife opened the door to the bridal room,
sticking her head around the corner. She was a kind looking brunette in her
early forties, her thick brown hair pulled back away from her round face. She
smiled softly at the bride, "You look radiant, Joey."
"Thanks," she
blushed. "Is it time?"
"Yes."
Joey smiled shakily at Jen and
picked up her bouquet. "You're first, Jen."
She nodded and hugged Joey
quickly, "See you in the front of the church."
"Yeah," she hugged her
back tightly. "And thank you, for standing by me through all of this," she
whispered quietly. Jen nodded and smiled at her as she walked out of the
door.
Joey listened from the hall as the music changed to the bridal
march. Taking a deep, cleansing breath, she stepped forward to stand in the
arched doorway leading down the aisle. Pacey smiled at Joey as she walked down
the aisle, offering her a wink to help ease her nerves. He looked over his
shoulder at Jack and smiled slightly.
Joey squeezed the stem of the
bouquet tightly, hoping the flowers disguised the shaking in her hands. She
forced a smile, trying to pretend this was like her first marriage. Except it
wasn't Samuel's thin blond frame standing at the end if the aisle, it was Pacey.
Her smile grew genuine.
When Joey moved to stand beside him, she gave him
her signature half smile. He looked at her in her gown, completely dumbstruck
with how beautiful she was. Her hair was swept back with a wave of curls hanging
behind the veil. She had on a simple locket that put her long neck on display as
the top of her dress showed off her shoulders. His eyes moved over her slowly
before he took her hand in his, and they turned to the pastor.
He was
still having a hard time comprehending this. He couldn't believe he was getting
married, and to Joey Potter. When they had been together before, he'd thought
about it several times. He wondered how she would react if he asked her. Where
they would hold the ceremony. And how could she be so crazy to actually accept
his proposal.
Except he hadn't asked her. She'd asked him and not for the
reasons he would have hoped all those years ago. She wanted a baby and would go
about getting it any way she could. Except this way she would have help. He
wouldn't let her do this all on her own. He would support her, take care of her
and anything she might need. She'd done so for him in the past, he was going to
do it for her now.
He glanced over at her to find her biting her lip and
he smiled softly. As he looked over at her, he thought of what Jack had said
about them sleeping together. That shouldn't even be an option, but it was one
that was slapping him in the face. She seemed to take delight in the fact that
she could tease him to the brink of insanity with just words, but he knew in
retribution he could make her blush brighter than anyone else in her
life.
Pastor Rick drew Pacey's attention from his thoughts, "The wedding
ring is the outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual bond which
unites two loyal hearts in endless love." He held up the two rings that Pacey
and Joey had each chosen for one another. "It is a seal of the vows Pacey and
Joey have made to one another. Bless O God these rings, that Joey and Pacey, who
give them, and who wear them, may ever abide in thy peace. Living together in
unity, love and happiness for the rest of their lives."
He smiled,
holding out the intricate gold band that Joey had chosen for Pacey. With shaking
fingers, she took it from him and turned to Pacey. "I, Joey, take thee, Pacey,
to be my lawfully wedded husband, secure in the knowledge that you will be my
constant friend, my faithful partner in life, and," her voice cracked, "--and my
one true love." She met his deep blue eyes with her own, barely registering
anyone else in attendence, let alone her sister's muffled sniffs, or the bright,
knowing smile on Jen's face. "I give you this ring as a symbol of our vows, and
with all that I am, and all that I have, I honor you. In the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit...With this ring, I thee wed." She slipped
the band onto his ring finger.
Pacey smiled, then took the ring from the
Pastor, and turned to Joey, noting her look upon seeing the ring. He smiled, and
slowly slid the ring over her finger, "I, Pacey, take thee, Joey, to be my
lawfully wedded wife, secure in the knowledge that you will be my constant
friend, my faithful partner in life, and my one true love." He winked at her as
he saw a little moisture build up around her eyes. "I give you this ring as a
symbol of our vows, and with all that I am, and all that I have, I honor you. In
the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit, with this ring, I
thee wed."
"As you have each pledged to the other your lifelong
commitment, love and devotion, I now pronounce you husband and wife, in the name
of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit." Pastor Rick smiled widely, "Those
whom God has joined together let no one pull asunder. Pacey, you may kiss your
bride."
He smiled and captured her face in his hands and brought her lips
to his as her hands moved up to grasp his shoulders. The kiss was soft and warm
and everything he could remember kissing Joey used to be. He pulled away slowly
and watched as her lashes swept upward and stared at him with wide, happy eyes.
