The Epilogue
by Dannie and Rinny

Pacey nudged the corner of his tie with his fingers, trying to straighten it. He growled at his image in the mirror. "Who the hell made these things anyway? It had to be a woman."

Shane and Doug exchanged glances and chuckled, "You know," Doug said, leaning against the wall in one of the side rooms of the chapel, his arms folded over his chest. "It's fitting the tie not be straight. Everything else about this wedding is backwards. You had Skyler before you were married, Bessie's giving Joey away, Jack's her Maid of Honor..."

"And you're one of my Best Men. You're right, everything is backwards."

Doug laughed, "If you're making jokes, you can't be too nervous."

"Please fix this!" Pacey complained to Shane stepping away from the mirror with futility. "And explain to me again why I can't see Joey or my daughter?"

"Skyler is with Joey in case she gets hungry, and Joey is sticking to tradition in that aspect of the ceremony, at least."

Pacey snorted, "I wonder who talked her into that."

"I think it was Mom," Doug said with a smile.

"Thanks," Pacey smiled to Shane. "And where is my nephew-to-be? Shouldn't he be here?"

"I think he's flirting with the flower girl."

"Hey, that's my brother's daughter you're talking about," Shane mock glared at Doug.

"Well, get him in here!" Pacey demanded.

The two other men exchanged looks, of course Pacey wasn't nervous. "There's still plenty of time, Pace. Alex doesn't need to be here for at least--"

"Go!" He turned to Shane, "And you, check on my girls for me."

"Aye Aye, Sir Capitaine," Shane saluted as he turned to follow Doug out. Pacey rolled his eyes as he started to pace the length of the small room. They were getting married, finally.

Joey Potter was finally going to become Joey Witter, making them a family in front of the law. He smiled softly, thinking of his wife, he'd been thinking of her as such for months now, and his daughter. Skyler had forced them to adjust to her sleeping schedule, every four hours her cries for food and attention woke them in the night.

In the day, she was slightly less routine, but it hardly affected either he or Joey beyond their eating and sleeping habits. Joey was able to focus on her photography, Skyler having become her favorite subject. She was confident enough that Lucy could handle the gallery fairly well on her own, so she only went in three days of the week, extending her maternity leave a little longer. For Pacey working at home was much easier, they rarely needed to see him at the newspaper office, and ever since Skyler's birth, his column had become a daily essay on the adventures of fatherhood. He'd been shocked and surprised at the popularity of his writing. Joey only shook her head knowingly, gave him a kiss, and told him she was proud. Which of course, led them to other things.

Other things that, more often than not, Skyler inevitably interuppted just as they were getting good.

Pacey grinned, but tonight, there would be no interuptions. After much pleading, he'd managed to convince Joey to leave Skyler, at five months old, with Aunt Bessie over night. He was uneasy leaving her alone for the first time, but he was looking forward to having his wife to himself for an entire night.

There was a light tap on the door before Jen stuck her head in. "And how is the groom?"

Pacey's head shot up to the door, "Lindley?" He blinked, "You came."

She smiled. "I'm here."

He ran his eyes over her pale blue dress that clung to her curves. Her hair was pulled back in a sophisticated up do. "You look beautiful, Jen."

A soft smile settled on her lips. "Yes, but I think your daughter takes the cake."

He broke into a proud smile, "She does, doesn't she? Obviously takes after her mom." He gestured for her to come in. "You've seen them?"

She nodded closing the door slightly behind her. "They both look beautiful."

An awkward silence fell between them, "It's been a long time, Jen."

"I know."

"Did you and Joey..." he shifted his stance, "Work things out? I can't tell you how much I regret how things ended between us, Lindley. You deserved so much better than that."

"That was years ago, Pacey." She waved it off. "Water under the bridge." She grinned. "It might hurt your ego, but you were pretty easy to get over."

He chuckled, "I'm glad you came, Jen. I never really knew how to go about getting in contact with you." He stepped closer to her and drew her into a hug.

She gave him a soft squeeze. "I'm glad I came too."

He pulled back with a smile, "So, how about we kill some time and you tell me what you've been doing these last few years?"

"Hmm...Where should I begin?"

He smiled his Cheshire grin, "The beginning of course."

"Smart ass."

"Come on," he looked down at the silver watch Doug had given him earlier that morning. "I've got fifteen minutes before I can go out there...I'd rather listen to your life story than work myself into a tizzy."

She sighed dramatically, sitting comfortably in one of the chairs. "Oh fine, if I must...."

Joey frowned as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. She threw her hands up in defeat. "I'm fat!"

Jack and Bessie rolled their eyes. "You are not," Bessie reprimanded. "You're just a little more curvy. I swear, if I had your figure after I had Alex, I'd be thanking God each and every day."

Joey rolled her eyes and smoothed out the silk of her sleeveless wedding dress. She picked up the skirt slightly to glance at the lace underneath. "I could have sworn I asked them to take some of this lace out. It looks like an open parachute." She turned back to Jack and Bessie. "Should I even be allowed to wear white? Maybe I should have gone with a different color."

"In this day and age?" Jack scoffed, "Joey, you look absolutely breathtaking. I swear, if I didn't know Pacey would skin me alive, I'd spirit you away to elope in Vegas, okay?"

She smiled. "And what about Shane?"

He shrugged, "That's just how gorgeous you look right now."

"Quite the compliment he just gave you, Jo." Bessie said with a smile.

"That's why I love him so much." She grinned. "Does my hair look okay?"

"Not a strand out of place," she assured her sister, coming to her side. "God, Jo. You're getting married."

Joey couldn't help but smile widely. "I know."

Bessie sniffed as Jack leaned back against the wall, letting the two sisters talk. "You're too young to be getting married."

Joey rolled her eyes in amusement. "I am not. Besides, I'm all ready a mother."

She cast a glance to her new niece who slept in her bassinet on the counter. "You're too young to be a mother too." She sighed, "Mom would be so proud of you, Jo."

Joey smiled her eyes beginning to water. "Stop it. You're going to make me cry."

" I am going to cry, through the whole thing." She gave a watery chuckle, "I can't believe you're marrying Pacey. I used to remember you running into the house yelling about all the cooties he gave you."

Her eyes teared. "Who'd have thought, huh?"

"Mom did," she slid an arm around her sister's waist and met her eyes in the mirror. "She always liked Pacey."

"I really wish she could be here."

"She is, Jo," Bessie whispered, pulling her into a hug.

Joey quickly wiped her eyes as she eventually pulled away. "Now you're probably going to have to do my make up all over again."

Bessie nodded sniffing, "Okay."

"Better make it quick," Shane said, entering the room. "I just talked to the pastor," he gave Jack's hand a discreet squeeze as he focused on Joey and Bessie. "He's going to get Pacey and the best men right now. I think you've got about five minutes."

Joey bit her lip and nodded, wringing her hands together. "I can't believe I'm nervous."

"I'd be worried if you weren't." Jack assured her, "I mean, you're getting married, to Pacey." He made a face.

"Good point."

"Who's watching Skyler during the ceremony?" Shane wondered, glancing at her bassinet.

Joey walked over to her sleeping daughter and smiled, she could never grow tired of watching her. "Bodie."

"Okay, I'll send him back." He gave Jack a quick kiss, "I'll see you guys in a few. I better get back to Pacey." He gave Joey a reassuring smile, "You look gorgeous by the way."

"Thanks."

"Sit, Jo," Bessie urged her to a chair to retouch her make up. She smiled, "Josephine Witter doesn't sound half bad."

"Maybe I do need my head examined," Joey commented as she sat. "I've agreed to become a Witter."

"Jo, how long have you known that boy?" Bessie asked, softy wiping away the stripes of mascara with a damp tissue.

She smiled faintly. "It seems like forever."

"It has been forever. And how long have you loved him?"

"It seems just as long."

The corner of Bessie's mouth curved upwards, "And for how long do you picture loving him?"

"I can't picture ever stopping," she replied softly.

"Good answer," Bodie said, entering the room. "Same one I gave," he gave Bessie a heart warming kiss.

Joey smiled up at him. "Think you'll be able to handle Skyler?"

"That little angel?" Bodie waved a hand, "No problem. She loves her Uncle Bodie." He stepped over to her bassinet, "Besides, if she gets to be too much trouble, you'll be right there."

"Oh, I don't know if I'll be able to leave her tonight." Joey frowned worriedly.

Bessie rolled her eyes, "She'll be fine. When's the last time you had Pacey all to yourself for a night?"

Joey sighed. "I can't even remember."

"I promise, when you guys come pick her up in the morning, she'll be perfectly fine. We'll take good care of her."

She reached out and curled a finger around her daughter's small hand. "Are you sure?"

"Yeah, we're sure." Bodie nodded, "And it's only for one night. Not even twenty-four hours."

"You'll call if anything, right?"

"We swear. If she so much as yawns funny."

She shot him a look. "Not funny."

"Ahem," The pastor, a thin man with a kind face poked his head around the door. We're ready to start. Everyone needs to get in place."

Joey's eyes settled on Bessie. "Think you'll be able to finish up soon?"

The older Potter brushed a dark curl back from Joey's face, examining her handiwork. "You look radiant, Jo."

A slow smile spread across her lips. "Thanks."

Bodie nodded his agreement, "Pacey's going to be struck dumb at the sight of you."

She giggled. "As long as he remembers what he's supposed to say."

"Okay," Bodie said, lifting a still sleeping Skyler from her bassinet, "Lets get this show on the road." He walked over to Joey, giving her a kiss on the cheek. "Good luck."

"Thank you," she whispered softly and she lightly caressed the top of Skyler's head before placing a small kiss on her cheek.

Bodie stopped to give Bessie a tender kiss before heading outside to his seat up front.

Bessie smiled at her sister as the door closed, "Well, sis. Are you ready to become a married woman?"

She caught a glance at her reflection in the mirror. "As I'll ever be."

The sharp ringing of glass against metal wrung through the small hall where the wedding reception was being held. All eyes turned to the head table where Jack stood behind Joey and Pacey, his knife clanging against the rim of his wine glass.

Once he had everyone's attention he spoke. "Thank you. As...Male of Honor," he smirked as everyone laughed. "I'd like to make a toast." Joey smiled and reached for Pacey's hand across the table, giving it a soft squeeze.

Jack paused, glancing over at the couple, "It's hard to believe I've known these two since I was sixteen years old, but it's true. I was there for the good and the bad. And the best. Never was there a couple who worked so hard to find the true love they deserve." He grinned, "Now that they've found it....Skyler is going to be one lucky child, to have something so strong and pure to be a part of. One day, she'll fall in love, and wont settle for anything less than what her parents have."

At Jack's words Joey's eyes immediately searched for her daughter who was nestled safely in her sister's arms. She smiled faintly.

"So here's to the Witter family and the love that they share," He raised his glass, "May it last forever." Joey raised her glass along with everyone else in the room and took a small sip.

Pacey smiled warmly at her as he slipped his fingers around hers, stealing the glass from her and putting in on the table. "I believe this our dance," he gestured to the dance floor as the first chords of music could be heard over the low murmur of wedding guests.

"I just hope my feet survive intact."

He smirked, "I thought we established the fact I can dance years ago." He held her hand as the walked to the dance floor.

She raised an eyebrow. "Oh, did we? I must have forgotten then."

"You still refuse to admit it," he circled his arms around her waist.

"Admit what?" she asked sweetly.

He rolled his eyes, "We never did learn the tango."

She tilted her head slightly. "No, I guess we didn't."

"There's still time," he smiled, dipping her over his knee. "Have I told you how breathtaking you look?"

She grinned. "You can save it, Pacey. I'm a sure thing."

"That's true. You married me." He pulled her back to her feet, holding her close, "What were you thinking?"

She shook her head. "I don't have a clue."

"You're such a smartass," he said affectionately, staring happily into her eyes.

"I must have gotten that from you then," she said with a smirk.

"Me?" he gave her his most innocent look. "But I'm an angel!"

"Sure, you are." She smiled.

"Isn't that why you married me?"

She nodded solemnly. "Oh of course."

"I lucked out then." He smiled warmly, "I got you to marry me before you found out the truth. Now you're stuck."

She grinned nibbling on her lower lip. "So when do we get to ditch everyone else?"

He glanced at the clock, "Another half an hour or so?"

She sighed resting her head against his shoulder. "This is probably going to be our last night alone for a long time."

He nodded, his fingers trailing up and down her the length of her back. "Probably. I plan to make it a memorable one."

The corner of her mouth turned up slightly. "I'll be counting on it."

They swayed with the music, the rest of the world falling away. Pacey tightened his arms around her as a fresh wave of love for overtook him. "I love you, Princess."

Her smile softened and she pressed a kiss to the crook of his neck before settling against him. "I love you too."

They were oblivious to their friends and family who watched them dance together. The love between them was so obvious it warmed the hearts of those who watched as the first dance of their marriage wound to a close...

That's why darling it's incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that I am unforgettable
