Who made the sound?   Noise is a nuisance, and yet it has a twisted efficacy- there is room for noise in the world   underneath the confusing blare of sounds and fury, one can find a shelter from the feelings sensed around a person's being-   birds serenely chirping, trucks rumbling by, trees swaying, water rolling through pipes and gravel, people whispering in the shadows, soft ground moving, howling winds, keys rattling underneath cloth near the flesh of a man stepping along the pavement, pop of chewing gum, screaming halt or jettison of powerful engine in the distance   noise is everywhere. the boy's ears long for comfort…     nov 20, 1991
