Nomenclature Test Entry #10 Feb 21
Post test Comments
- compounds are not ending in ...IDE
- didn't write valence numbers with the element in question. e.g. its Fe2+ not Fe alone
- didn't criss-cross; told this many many times
- can't read or didn't use Roman Numerals
- didn't know hydroxide, cyanide or ammonium which are read from the chart.
- some misuse of numerical prefixes
Chemistry Unit Test 2P March 18
review
Test in three parts; Multiple choice, true or false, (this means Scantron so have a pencil) & fill in the blanks.
The following is a random list of must know and/or be able to do concepts
- Can you recognize &/or balance an equation
- there are five reactions types; do you know them and can quantify a given equation as to the type.
- Do you know what an indicator is? can you name those studied in class? Do you know their colours in acid, water and base?
- Physical and chemical reactions &/or properties with examples.
- Chemical nomenclature: Name to formula and formula to name.
- what's pH and what pH less than 7 more than 7 and equal to 7 means.
- Valence numbers
- Periodic chart famliy names
- Rows and columns on the periodic chart; can you read the numbers
for example: anything in row 5 has 5 shells and anything in column 5 has 5 valence electrons and has a valence value of -3.
- How can the rate of a chemical reaction be increased, there are four ways do you know them and do you know the experiments done to show these affects?
- Review the experiments done in class. If you forget check out the week by week site.

- Same nomenclature mistakes as made up above plus many more students did not end compound in ...IDE
criss-crossing not done or reducing
nomenclature, naming compound worst done part of the test.
- Didn't know how many states of matter there are
- Mis-use of sulfide and sulfate
- Didn't know indicator colours
- Experiment results not known
- Is the equation balanced; some can't recognize this
- Properties of acids/bases not known
- Didn't clue into the terms reactants and products
Some had trouble or didn't know how to read periodic table for number of valence electrons
- Chemical families, columns not known
All of the above are points of study and that is up to you. I can only tell you the information; youi must learn it. If this advise is not heeded you will always do poorly on tests
