I must say I have never been left alone this long before. Everyone seems to have lost interest. Probably, they only need me for school assignments. But wait! Someone is coming closer! Ah, Bobby is picking me up. He’s never seen me before. He’s dropping me (ow!) on the desk. Wow, it feels great to stretch my pages again. It’s been years since Jane had to read me for school. Hmm. This kid seems rather slow. And starting in the middle! I can’t see his assignment sheet, but he must not need to read me completely. Now, HEY! He seems bored! How can a person be bored with such beauty? How can one read “But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?” with such a face? “And Juliet is the sun” makes absolutely no effect. This idle philistine! Jane was visibly taken with such romance, such wondrous verse, but her brother, I fear, has no proper feeling. What now?... Ouch! What’s this? He’s writing on my margins! What an ignominious scandal! I shall never be sorry again to be left on the shelf.
