The pedestal mount for the grating spectrograph is certainly a humble affair.
The image on the left shows the completed arrangement. Construction consists of a 18" length of 4" PVC piping;
2 flanges; some stout lumber for it's base and an equatorial head from a seldom used telescope tripod. A
10 X 12" piece of .125" aluminum plate is fastened to the equatorial head to provide a platform for the spectrograph/camera body. Some
well placed L brackets keep it secured to the platform.
The pedestal mounted spectrograph has been primarily used for solar observations and for viewing and recording terrestrial light
sources. Examples of the spectra obtained with this instrument may be found here.
