Installation Notes for Compaq Smart Array Controller Driver 
			  on Solaris 8 
          using Driver Update Diskette Labeled CPQary8.220

This file contains information on how to create and use CPQary8.220 DU
(Driver  Update)  Diskette  for  installing  the  Compaq  Smart  Array
Controller driver.

1.  Contents of the DU

The DU Diskette contains CPQary package, version 1.1.1 This version of
the CPQary  package  contains  Compaq  Smart  Array Controller driver,
"smartii", version 2.20


2.  Supported Hardware

This driver supports the following Compaq Array Controllers 
*  Compaq Smart Array 221 Controller
*  Compaq Smart Array 3200 Controller
*  Compaq Smart Array 3100ES Controller
*  Compaq Smart-2DH Array Controller
*  Compaq Smart-2SL Array Controller
*  Compaq Smart-2P Array Controller
*  Compaq Smart-2E Array Controller


3. Installing the Contents of the Package.

1. Loading the smartii driver during Installation of Solaris 8.
This is the procedure to be followed to boot Solaris 8 using any of
the  above-mentioned  Compaq  Array controllers as boot controller.

1.  Boot Solaris with Configuration Assistant Diskette or with
    Solaris 8 Software/WebStart CD.
2.  When the Configuration Assistant screen is displayed, choose the
    F4 option (F4_Add Driver)
3.  When  the  'Install Supplemental Drivers'  screen  is displayed,
    remove the  Configuration  Assistant  diskette (if it is used to
    Boot Solaris) and insert the CPQary8.220 Driver Update diskette.
4.  Press F2_Continue.
5.  At  this  stage,  the smartii driver is loaded from the diskette
    into the memory.
6.  You  can  also  add  other  drivers through the corresponding DU
    diskettes at this stage. Once all the required drivers are added
    remove the DU diskette from the diskette drive and reinsert  the
    Configuration Assistant diskette (if it is used to Boot Solaris)
    and press F4_Done.
7.  The Identified Device Drivers screen is displayed.
8.  Press  F2_Continue.  Continue  with  the installation process of
    Solaris Operating System.
9.  At the end, the installation  program  prompts you to insert the
    CPQary8.220 DU diskette again.
10. Reinsert the CPQary8.220 DU diskette.
11. Press Enter to continue.
12. Following is displayed while successfully installing the  CPQary
    package.
     Installing package CPQary
     Compaq Array Controller
     (i386) VERSION=1.1.1, REV=2000.01.26.02.20
     Copyright 2000, Compaq Computer Corporation. All Rights Reserved.
     Installation of  was successful.
13. Remove the diskette from the diskette drive.
14. Follow the instructions  prompted  by  the  Solaris  Installation
    Program.


2. Adding the driver to the already installed Solaris Operating System

1.  Become superuser on your system.
2.  Check to see if Volume Management is running
# ps -ef | grep vold
3.  If Volume Management is running stop the same.
# /etc/init.d/volmgt stop 
4.  Insert the CPQary8.220  DU diskette into the diskette drive.
5.  Mount the  CPQary8.220  DU diskette at the /mnt mount point:
# mount -F pcfs /dev/diskette  /mnt 
6.  Execute the install script on the diskette
# /mnt/DU/sol_28/i86pc/Tools/install.sh -i
7.  The following message gets displayed on succssful installation.
    Installation of  was successful.
8 . Unmount the diskette:
# umount /mnt 
9.  Remove the DU diskette from the diskette drive.
10. Execute the following commands to reconfigure while rebooting the
    machine
# touch /reconfigure
# reboot
11. In the next boot, give "b -r" as a boot option.
