Analytical phase, program, and site model

DATE ISSUED: Monday 06 January 2003
DUE DATE: Monday 27 January 2003, at 9:00 a.m., Room TBA

PROJECT BRIEF

This term's project will involve the design of an exhibition pavilion for the Canadian centre for Architecture, CCA. The pavilion will serve as a venue that will be curated as a separate entity with on-going expositions, like the existing Octagonal Room at the CCA. The exhibition areas will be designed toaccommodate large and small objects as well as projection screens.

The Toy and Building miniatures collections are pertinent examples from which specific exhibitions could be assembled. The pavilion will function as a general open door venue to the institution. The pavilion will be located in the open court to the north of the existing CCA building. Particular aspects of the program will be analysed and developed during the first three weeks of the term.

THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
The theoretical framework that we will attempt to address throughout this term will be informed by explorations of the concepts of ground, horizon, and transparency.

PARTICULAR OBJECTIVES: To collect pertinent information as part of the analytical phase of this term's project. Relevant activities during this initial group venture will include the making of a basswood site model, scale 1:100, and the gathering of historical precedents, cartographic information, and pertinent data on the site, client institution (CCA), and program for the project.

NOTE: Projects 1 and 2 will run simultaneously.
