PROJECT 2 (INDIVIDUAL) BRIEF:
Tectonic explorations

DATE ISSUED: Monday 06 January 2003
DUE DATE: Monday 14 February 2003, at 9:00 a.m., Room TBA

OBJECTIVES:
The purpose of this project is twofold: first, to allow the participants to develop a spatial sense and the awareness of various design strategies; second, to provide the participants with the opportunity to explore the fascinating relationship of construction and the tectonic aspects of design.

THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
The theoretical framework that we will attempt to address throughout this term will be informed by explorations of the concepts of ground, horizon, and transparency.

PROJECT BRIEF

This hands on part of the term's design activities will focus on the opportunity of exploring the tectonic qualities of at least two materials, which will become a significant component in the development of a a tectonic "parti." We will be studying and using the current exhibition on Herzog and de Meuron at the CCA as a precedent for this phase of the project. First visit has been scheduled on Tuesday 7 January at 1:45 p.m. (Admission charge per student $4.00
