Hindu Temples of Jaffna - 2

Karunakara Pillaiar, Urumpirai Karunakara Pillaiar, Urumpirai Karunakara Pillaiar, Urumpirai

Karunakarap Pillaiyar Temple, Urumpirai. This temple was damaged in 1987 and repaired recently. This latest renovation introduced this character, which seems to be in demand currently in Jaffna. This had a tiled, gable roofed "Mandapam" (hall) in front that gave way to this new one.

 
Santhaiyar Madam Katpaha Vinayakar Temple, Vannarponnai. Kanthasami, Urumpirai Kanthasami Temple, Urumpirai
Santhaiyar Madam Katpaha Vinayakar Temple, Vannarponnai. This is situated close to the heart of Jaffna town. Kanthasamy Temple, Urumpirai. This temple too was renovated in recent times, but the tiled, gable roof was left untouched. This temple does not have a Gopuram. Note the bell tower, which is a feature that cannot be seen in the temples of Tamilnadu, India.
