Major John B. Auxier


Biography

Maj. John Brown Auxier was born on February 9, 1817, at Blockhouse Bottom in Johnson County Kentucky. John was the son of Samuel II and Rebecca (Phillips) Auxier. He married first on May 30, 1839 to Angeline Mayo, and second in Greenup County to Mary Ann Tilsley on August 18, 1856. Mary was born on January 7, 1830, in Staffordshire, England, a daughter of William and Mary Ann (Finney) Tilsley.

"My father married Rebecca Phillips in 1813. They had eleven children, as follows, viz: Nat, John B., Jemima, George W., Sarah, Joseph, Samuel, Rebecca, Martha J., Araminta, and Henry J. Then my mother died September 20, 1835, and he married Agnes Wells, his second wife. They had the following children, viz: Margaret, Elijah B., William L., J.K. Polk, and Ann - sixteen in all - thirteen still living. Father died December 13, 1883, having lived on the same farm since 1795."
