This is stuff that I like. I hope you may find that you enjoy it too!
Music
Jaco Pastorius
He has several recordings which are phenomenal and a bunch of junk that only a mother or a bassist could love. Here are the good ones:
Jaco Pastorius. 1976, Epic EK 33949. Jaco's self-titled debut solo recording.
Word of Mouth. 1981, Warner Bros. 3535-2. Some of his most beautiful compositions and arrangements are on this recording.
Invitation. 1981? There are some fantastic live performances on this recording. The ensemble playing is fairly tight, but fun. A stellar cast of musicians makes this one a great acquisition.
The Birthday Concert. This is a really great recording by Peter Yianilos of a couple of incredible live performances.
Jaco with others
With Randy Bernsen: Music for Planets, People, and Washing Machines. Mo' Wasabi. Paradise Citizens.
With Joni Mitchell: Mingus. Hejira.
With Jimmy Cliff: Cliff Hanger.
With Pat Metheny: Bright Size Life.
There are others; however, I do not want to promote some of this material for one reason or another.
Robbie Robertson
Robbie Robertson. 1987. Produced by Daniel Lanois.
Storyville.
Jeff Buckley

New Stuff I've Really Been Enjoying
Semisonic. Closing Time.
Goo Goo Dolls. Dizzy Up the Girl.
Bruce Hornsby. Spirit Trail.
Gin Blossoms.
The Wallflowers. Bringing Down the Horse.
The Counting Crows. August and Everything After.
Edwin McCain. Misguided Roses.
Shawn Mullins. Soul's Core.
Mark Zaden - Six is Fine.
My friend from South Florida has put out a very strong recording featuring his unique voice and excellent song-writing capabilities. This recording has attitude without edge and the musicianship and production is of a very high caliber. There are nine songs, though I wish there were more. While the sound can be "powerful" sometimes, the CD never drifts into harshness. The production and featured guitar work of Nunzio Signore are first-rate. This is one I put on when I'm tired of listening to the radio. A unique and enjoyable recording. Contact Mark directly at 954-938-7377.
Books
All-time Favorites
Michael Herr. Dispatches.
Nikos Kazantzakis. The Last Temptation of Christ.
Vladimir Nabokov. Lolita. The real beauty of this book is that it traps the reader with a perverse mind. It can be a little too subtle for most people.
Saburo Sakai. Samurai.
Michael Shaara. The Killer Angels. Fantastic historically accurate novel of the Battle of Gettysburg.
Timothy White. Catch a Fire: The Life of Bob Marley.
Some poets I like: John Donne (always at the top of the list for a mental workout); Kenneth Patchen; Lawrence Ferlinghetti; Czeslaw Milosz; the unknown author of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
