Corporal John Estep, Co. H
Corporal John Estep was born in Tazewell County, VA, around 1837. He had blue eyes, a fair complexion, fair hair, and he was six feet tall. He enrolled with the Bakers, Dotsons, A. C. Smith, and his brother, Elijah, on Dec. 27, 1862, at Peach Orchard, KY. He died of chronic diarrhea on February 25th (or 24th), 1863, in the hospital at Louisa, KY. He was buried in his clothes. His father was Shade Estep and his mother was Ruth. They were fairly wealthy people according to the 1850 Tazewell Census.
