MILITARY DATA: On scout July, 1863, at Big Creek, KY; medical discharge 16 November, 1863, at Louisa, KY, due to rheumatism from exposure last winter at “Georges Creek and Peach Orchard without tents and outer clothing.” He was treated at the Regimental Hospital at Louisa, Lawrence County, KY.

FAMILY DATA: Born 1804, Cabell Co., VA; father – Samuel King (at enlistment he gave his age as 46) the son of Samuel King; Wife (1) Mary Phillips, daughter of Zachariah and Elizabeth Charles Phillips; married in 1827 in Pike Co.; she died McLeod Co., MN, 10 July, 1864; Children - Nancy (Mrs. Denny Coleman), William, Elizabeth Jane (Mrs. Albert Breeding), Priscilla (Mrs. George Fuller - served in CSA), Ellen (Mrs. John S. Pierce from Christensburg, VA), Rachel (Mrs. Samuel Pancake), Mary (Mrs. Robert McAlmond), Minerva (1 Asa Booth, 2 Miles Ramey). Wife ( 2) Virginia C. Helms, daughter of Thomas Helms, married 26 October, 1867, Meeker Co., MN. He became the guardian of Denny Coleman’s children.

RESIDENCE: Cabell Co., VA; Pike Co., KY; Spring of ’64 to McLeod Co., MN; 1873 to Monteque Co., TX; 1875 to Tarrant Co., TX.

OCCUPATION: farmer; Methodist Minister; Hotel Keeper in Arlington, TX.

DEATH: 30 November, 1891, at Arlington, TX; burial Watson Cemetery, Tarrant Co.

Lewis King was the leader of an eastern Pike County Home Guard organization prior to the formation of and his enrollment in the 39th Kentucky, as per a letter written by John Dils, Jr., and found in his defense against his dismissal. - Robert
