Biography

Squire enlisted in the 39th Kentucky Infantry on the 6th day of Sepetember 1862. He enlisted for a period of three years and was mustered into service in November 1863 although he was actively serving before that date. His enlistment document states "This soldier has blue eyes, dark hair, dark complexion, is five feet and ten inches high."

Having been born and raised in Southwestern Virginia, Squire was one of the men who served on detached duty as a scout for the 39th. These scouts provided valuable intelligence of rebel activity through the Pound Gap.

Squire was the son of Isham Hall and Jane Mullins of Virginia. Squire was born in 1832 in Scott County Virginia. Around 1851 he married Nancy Jane Adams, the daughter of John Micajah "Cager" Adams and Elizabeth "Betsy" Mullins of Mason's Creek, Perry County Kentucky. Children of Squire and Nancy were: Scott born in March of 1852, Henry in March of 1854, Mary Jane in 1857, James in January of 1860 and Melvina in 1863.

Squire was murdered in Pike County by Elizabeth Sword in either late 1868 or early 1869.
