William Akers, Private, Co. A. He was born in Scott County, Virginia, 1832. Son of Thomas Blackburn Akers and Kesiah Mead. William married Vicey Baldridge. William's grandfather was Valentine Akers, a Revolutionary War veteran. He mustered in at George's Creek, Peach Orchard, Kentucky, September 6th, 1862. While chasing the Rebels between Cynthiana and Lexington, at a place known as Crab Orchard, he fell from his horse, causing injuries to his back and leg. He mustered out at Louisville, Kentucky, September 15, 1865. He was honorably discharged from the service of the 39th Kentucky Mounted Infantry, U.S. Volunteers. Later in life, William applied for and recieved a pension for those injuries. He died at Bonanza, Kentucky, on March 7th, 1916.
