The Adjutant General's Report states: "Died April 17, 1863, at Louisa, Kentucky, of erysipelas [Acute infectious disease of the skin or mucuous membranes characterized by inflammation of the skin, accompanied with fever; caused by any of several kinds of streptococcus.]."
